But there have been and are contests that the prize is frubals. I would much rather have something besides just frubals but it also would sure be nice to be able to spend them on something, even if it was a t-shirt or something.
Lisa I totally agree with you. Frubals are fun, but nothing beats something you can actually spend. But guess what? I won a cruise here on CLF. I really and truly did! OK, it wasn't exactly a whole free cruise...because CLF was young and just getting started, and they were on a budget. But I really did win some real live money to put toward a cruise, which I most certainly did! Maybe if you ask real nice Rex and the gang would do another cruise giveaway.
Julie,
That is an idea. I'll see about mentioning it to them. But maybe also if people say they would like a free berth, either via frubal trade or otherwise they will try to do something like that.
That's a shame. Well, you're a shoe-in if they decide to do a "Sexiest Leprechaun" contest!

I see that the voting is a 3 way tie at the moment! I voted no. Frubals are fun and I'd miss them.
I haven't begged for quite some time now, but my count is steadily rising. I know...it's not the original intent of frubals and I'm really surprised that Rex has let it continue without modifications.
I suppose the overall post count is a lot higher because of those "particular" threads. I have noticed that a lot of message boards have off topic areas that are quite well populated, so there is a need for them for the "friendship" factor.
Char,
I understand about missing them. I think by giving away Millions of frubals for a contest doesn't seem the intent of them either. If you stayed with the intent of them you would only give them when you found a really good post you wanted to give reputation for.
The contests I would think wouldn't be who got the most votes but who submitted the best review, avator, etc and they would get frubals for the post and they would know that theirs was like most so then the votes, which can in a way be bought, not that anyone would do that but is possible.
Just was giving thoughts on something to do with them, even being able to exchange for a t-shirt or something would be nice. When you give out frubals your count doesn't go down so all it can do is go up.
I'm going to vote "no" too as a member of the old school frubal club. What would be wonderful is if the cruiselines acknowledge CLF roll call groups onboard, just as cruisecritic ones are often given meet and greet parties. I believe those happened as part of an advertising relationship. But even then, on non-RC or Celebrity ships (which have the official m 'n' g's for groups bigger than 25, it's hit or miss for getting a meeting listed in the ship's newsletter. IMO, a cruiseline isn't going to care about "frubals" no matter how much the CLF founders lobby.
I did win a cruiseline forum's tee-shirt (before forum was changed to fans) by starting on-topic threads in a contest a year ago. I think the review contest is a great idea because it encourages people to write something that will help this site. The begging threads don't really. I know because I invited a few people to come over here from cc and they commented about the lack of substance, probably because they checked out the different areas and got the impression the off-topic area was the biggest. I had checked out one cruising site a couple of years ago and felt it very cliquish because everyone seemed to be talking about the group cruises they were organizing, and not about cruising topics in general.

I see threads started that are on topic and meaty but no one answers them. We have a good deal of fun here, but we really need to do more of a service to our site than play.

The review idea is great for you experienced cruisers. Also meaty topic and such and feed back again is great for the experienced cruisers but I see a lot of info that interests me but I can't really say anything knowledgable about it because I've never cruised before and my first one isn't until Jan 10, 2008.
I can't afford to go on tons of cruises,
1) I live in Kansas, pretty darn landlocked here so have to fly or drive to any port and driving is at least 15 to 20 hours.
2) I have a family of 4 and unless I never want to have a vacation with them or pay for 4 people for a cruise, my cruises are going to be few and far between.
So it would be nice to be able to do something that people that haven't cruised a lot, or at all might be able to get. Also not saying the cruiselines would be interested in the frubals, just the way they would be "paid" for.
I think if the cruises thought that giving a few free cruises away to the cruise forums out there would help their business they might be willing to do it. That is just my thoughts on this.
Just what do you do with the frubals, nothing but accumulate them. I've been begging for frubals, I admit but once I hit 25M mark, hopefully tomorrow, I will quit and just give to good posts, but that sometimes requires lots of time and also determining which 10 deserve to get my frubals for the day.
