Wow - Didn't even know this was a port of call . . . certainly haven't been there, but did find this on Nicaragua.com:
Corinto is a very small coastal town that is located on the northwest of Nicaragua. . . . population of approximately 20 000 and the town itself is very poor, . . . . If you are looking for a forgotten town where life passes by slowly and where there is not a hint of city life, then Puerto Corinto is the perfect destination in Nicaragua. There are a few ministries and church assemblies that are currently working within Corinto to assist families that are victims of unemployment and to try to provide relief where they are able. Corinto is a fairly safe destination in Nicaragua, but visitors are urged to remain vigilant and not to wander into areas they are unsure of.
. . . The streets of Corinto are lined with quaint little shops and lovely church buildings
AND THIS:
virtually untouched beaches and idyllic tropical surroundings. Besides for a few local boys that use the beach for a game of soccer, the beautiful stretches of sand and ocean are yours to enjoy. If you would like to take a quick splash in the waves, visitors must be aware that the currents are very strong here and extra precaution should be taken.
Another shore that deserves exploring is the completely deserted and breathtaking Isla El Cardon. Locals will be able to take you by boat to this remote little island at a reasonable rate. Here you will definitely be able to enjoy the peaceful island breeze and soak up the warm sun, without the fear over overcrowded beaches. The more adventurous visitors can safely investigate the rest of the island as it is not inhabited at all.
The beach and the Isla El Cardon sound very interesting!

Excerpts from several sites:
Puerto Corinto is a very small town. It is Nicaragua's only container port on the Pacific and has exactly one container crane. The town itself is quite "rustic". A typical street corner has very few cars, lots of bicycles & pedicabs. We walked straight down what appeared to be a main drag to the plaza in the center of town. The church was on side & on the side was the "zoo" the park. It consisted of a pen with a crocodile & a bunch of turtles. There was nothing to do or buy in town so we walked back to the ship. There were several vendor stands set up there.we booked a privat tour with ToursNicaragua... NICARAGUA TOURS - ECOTOURISM, CULTURE, HIKING, SIGHTSEEING & BEACH - They were recommended on another travel board. Since we haven't taken the tour yet, I can't give you any first-hand information but the owners are ex-pats from the U.S. and their website is very comprehensive. We'll be going to Leon (Nicaragua's 2nd largest city), Leon Viejo (basically ruins) and San Jacinto Hot Springs (to see the bubbling pots). To give you an idea of distances... Puerto Corinto is 65 miles from Leon Viejo and San Jacinto is 35 miles from Puerto Corinto113 degrees F is the max temperature. Yeah itīs hot hot hot in Corinto, Nicaragua, but so many things make up for it. Like for example the crocodile living in the central park, the picturesque little islands with crystal clear waters scattered throughout the Pacific, the mountains of beautiful sea shells, lobster for $3, every type of seafood imaginable, and the amazing view of the volcano corridor stretching from Managua (the capital city) to the Gulf of Fonseca on the Honduran border.
Thanks for your help
