Question Should I buy a skirt?

I have several fancy tops that look like they would be great with a black skirt. Although I do have black pants, they are a fur magnet - no cat ever sat on them, but they are always covered with hairs. Also, the tops are thin for summer and I have sweaters to go with my dressy pants. So I am wondering if I should buy a black skirt - all of my tops have black on them - because I only have one skirt, and it has a flower pattern, so I can't use it.

My wife does not take any skirts on a cruise (and neither do I for that matter!).

Formal nights can be as formal or as casual as you want them to be. You'll see everything from tuxedos to golf shirts. Personally, I wear a tie, but usually do not even take a jacket - too warm, takes up too much space, and weighs too much.

When flying, you obviously have to be very concerned about weight. Does not take much to hit 50 pounds, so you just have to pack smart.

For example, we take convertible pants; the ones that have zip-off legs. That way they can serve as long pants or shorts depending on the weather. I take one pair of dress pants, one pair of casual, one pair of convertible pants and one pair of shorts. I also take 2 dress shirts, 2 or 3 golf shirts, a couple of t-shirts and 2 ties. And I'll pack one pair of dress shoes, pair of sandals, and walking shoes. Other than socks and underwear, that's about it. If necessary and there's no self-serve laundry onboard, I'll wash something and hang it in the bathroom. Needless to say, after all our travels, I've learned to pack very light.

Remember, and I'm serious about this, pack half as much as you think you'll need and it'll be twice as much as you need.

Depending on the itinerary, I may bring a gauzy skirt that I can wear for smart casual dinners. It's pretty light and it doesn't matter if it gets wrinkly. I can pair it with different blouses and get several outfits.

A nice black skirt belongs in every woman's wardrobe. A classic that never goes out of style will be good for many years and will serve you well in your travels. Nice (non-furry ) black pants will also be in style for many years. Wear what you are comfortable in and change tops for different looks.

I do have a plain black dress for the purpose, but I could see part of the upper half under one of my fancy tops.

I also found another black skirt to wear my plan black top with.

Surprisingly, Amazon does not have many black 10P full skirts. It mostly has shorter skirts in that size. But I would love to try on the one that costs almost $100.

I went to the Princess website to read about the dress codes, so it looks like my skirts are for smart casual nights and a dress will be on my cruise shopping list. That makes me want to pack both of my skirts and buy a black one for a 7-night cruise because my black pants are cat hair magnets.

I agree with Char that a black skirt should be in every woman's wardrobe I also like to change things up a bit from black so I usually take dark grey dress pants and a black skirt on my cruises for the casual nights and pack dressy tops that can go with black & grey.

I also agree with Pete in his statement of packing 1/2 of what you think you need and it'll be twice as much.

I found a black skirt on Amazon that looks perfect. It has pockets and an elastic waist and apparently is the right length, although it is not pictured on a model (they say it hits the mid-calf). It's not in my cart, but marked as "saved for later." I don't know who makes it, but I don't care.

Now that I found a real skirt to replace a black dress I cannot use with one of my fancy tops or by itself I am in the market for a new dress I can wear alone for all formal nights and luxury cruises. To find one in my favorite style I need to look everywhere so I will not put off shopping too long.

I ordered the skirt I saw on Amazon that looks so perfect online. I don't know if it will fit right because they call it a petite medium (it should be 10P), but it is exactly what I was looking for.
