Question Cold weather to warm weather packing blues

This is our fifth cruise but our first cruise for non-summer months. We are heading to the Bahamas toward the end of December. Can anyone suggest how much cold weather gear we will need. Will we look stupid in summer gear before arriving in Florida. I hate to have to pack so much and summer clothes verses winter cloths is a big jump. Could someone with December cruising experience assist? By the way; we are leaving from Baltimore.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

IMHO, I would dress appropriately for the plane trip to and from Baltimore. And just bring summer clothes for the rest of the trip, with the occasional warm jacket and such just in case. The weather in December should be nice and warm for you in the Bahamas.

    Hi jwcruiser

    Welcome to CLF!

When I travel in the winter, I pack a few things that could be layered, a couple long sleeve tops, sweater and rain jacket. Once you get far enough South the weather will be warm. If needed, you could always buy a sweatshirt from the onboard shops too!

When we travel from Minnesota, we dress warmly in layers. We remove them as needed until we are down to the tank top layer, when we arrive in warmers temps. We leave the coats in the car if we drive to the airport and leave them at home if we have a ride.

Hey whyrlgig! Welcome to our friendly cruise community!

I have a question for you. If you leave your coats in the car how do you get yourselves and your luggage back to the car without freezing? I have read a number of posts that mention leaving the coats in the car, but, being from Florida, I think I would freeze if I had to go out in the cold and snow without a coat!

Char it just one of those things, We have to run really fast. I plan on leaving my coat in the car at the airport. I'll drop the family off at the gate. Ill just try not to slip on ice while I run.

Don't fall and break something on the way to the ship! That would be terrible! I guess you have learned to tough it out....I would wimp out.

Every winter, we fly south from the Cold. cold north. We take a taxi to the airport, so I don't wear boots. I do wear a winter jacket. I keep a pair of gloves in the pocket and have something (hood or hat) to cover my head. We fly far, so I wear something comfortable for the plane (s). I don't take woolens.

When we did the Panama Canal, we took the tour to the Poaz volcano and even though it was hot, up there we needed our winter clothes. I was happy to have them!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my Winter (cold) to the warmer climate packing advice. Our leaving port (Baltimore) is our home town so we don't have to fly anywhere. When we cruise during the summer I take a lot of clothes. I was a bit worried about having to take winter and summer clothes when I think of 'how much'! I wonder how others are dressed during the day when we are maybe a day out (around the Carolina's). Will I look stupid in Capri's?
