Bow Ties- To Tie or Not, that is the question.

So is a pre tied bow tie good enough for formal night ? Or should we be learning how to tie one from scratch. Or does it depend on what type of line you are on ? More fromal lines like Cunard vs more casual like Carnival ( I assume Carnival is more casual maybe ) ?

I would never wear a pre-tied bow tie, but I am a Cunard person.

It's not heard to tie a bow tie and it always looks better than a pre-tied one

I really don't think it matters what cruise line you are sailing on as to whether one is more appropriate than the other. What matters is that it looks good...not a Walmart cheapie.

The Bobster uses the pre-tied kind...but we aren't Cunard people. When you get older your hands don't do things as well as they once did...like tying bow ties and putting studs in the shirt. Doable, but harder.

I have more trouble putting on a pre-tied one, trying to get the hook in the hole is not easy.

The problem I have with pre tied is they never seem tight enough and hang down a bit especially as the night wears on.

If you can tie your shoes you can tie a bow tie.

    Me too!

Sometimes it takes me two tries but I can tie the real thing and it looks great.

He always gets so hot and sweaty while I'm doing it. GRUMPY, too!

Finally, I decided to get him a good pre-tied one. Not all the pre-tied are the same. They make some very nice ones now. When he'd have to wear one for a fuction traveling (business) without me, he took a pre-tied.
