My ideas exactly! I can pack for the trip out and use the bathroom scale but I have no idea what the return stuff weighs (On our last return flight we were 4 pounds over but we were flying Southwest. They told us to nevermind the overage)

That was nice of them, I have had them say go ahead, and have had them suggest swapping stuff around, or just out right charging... The one time we were charged, she was 7 pounds over, so was not worth the shuffle game...
I tried the bathroom scale, but am never sure how accurate it is since my bag is a little wider then it and would hang over and touch the ground... So, I would try the balance game.

All this talk about just paying for the overweight bags! It's only money!
We have another reason not to pack heavy. As you get older it is not easy to handle the big bags, so we are always within the limits of what we can actually manage for ourselves.
2 checked bags and 2 carryons....total, NOT per person. Checked bags won't weigh more than 45 pounds each.
Good point Char. We picked up the new Samsonite rolling bags before our TA the year before last. Those bags are large but so easy to handle that we don't know what we would do without them. All I have to do is roll them out of the car and they almost move themselves.

we only check 3 bags - 2 rollers 1 garment. And we only have 1 carry on each.
Until all this non-sense recently, we were within limits.. So, some might think it is a lot, but I know what is in the bags and know it sounds worse then it really is...
Neal, I checked out Samsonite pretty closely... Still have my eye on them, however taking my luggage until the wheels fall off...

I got the hand held scale for Mother's Day. Target $20. I know as I picked it out of the ad for my DH to purchase. I flew last week on a business trip and it works great!!! A must have for every flier!! You'll love it. I used to do the scale thing but I'd weight a closed bag three or four times and each time it was different....

I was putting my hand scale away today and thought why don't I just throw it in the bag for return trip weighing. It's so light it won't be the problem if I'm over weight!!

How will you check the new weight with the scale inside the bag..
