Check out this link: http://www.cruiselinefans.com/celebr...celebrity.html (New Food, Beverage, Dress Code for Celebrity)

There was a meeting at Celebrity's headquarters where there was a discussion about the dress code.

I dont really know what to think about the formal attire being dropped! I do believe with Char, in this day and age Casual attire appears to suit(all around the world) however, it is nice to dress up like this once in a while, allthough it is a pain to have to make room for this, especially when we come so far away, so we always tie in a cruise with an approximate 3 week land stay on top of it.......I still wouldnt like to see people dress for dinner in the main dining rooms with Jeans/Shorts etc.

Dropping informal nights are ok as long as they dont mess with Formal.
I hope they enforce the dress codes as I hate seeing guests in jeans and t-shirts in the restaurants.
Dressing up during a cruise is part of the fun and also shows respect for the ship, restaurants, food and crew.

Informal nights were my pet peeve on my one Celebrity cruise. I don't mind bringing my tux and maybe a dark suit but adding sports coats was just too much.

I felt the same way. When we were on HAL recently, there was formal and smart casual. Much easier to pack for, I'm glad Celebrity is going that direction. I do hope that none of the cruiselines I cruise on ever drops formal. We enjoy that

Intersting data on the Celebrity Meeting info

What I found intesting was the data they used to base their decision.

Formal 80% compliance
Informal 30% Compliance
Casual - Up to 30% unacceptable (Jeans, shorts , torn pants.)

I guess that explains why they dropped Informal. If only 30% of the passengers dressed according to code on informal night it would be impossible to enforce. . (I'm not sure where they got that, I've always seen about 80% or more on my longer cruises, but did see fewer dressed for informal on the 7 day Alaska Cruise. )

But the new information says that they want people to be smart casual or better on every night and they have a plan and support to enforce that code. They also say they are going to keep formal nights special, which I like.

We cruise in November, so we'll have to see how things go.

Pulease.........enlighten me as to the difference between informal and smart casual?

We always try to look smart on cruises!!! Formal, we do the cocktail dress/pants thingy, but just try to look nice on the other evenings!! I realise that for the guys it means a jacket for informal, but what 'abaht' the gals?
