To formal or not to formal, that is the question

    Hey y'all

There is a burning question that begs an answer!

Now that so many ships are offering the anytime dining concept, are you still going to dress up on "formal" nights?

(not talking about the casual alternatives---but the regular dining rooms with the "come when you're ready" option)

Do you think that the ships with the anytime dining will completely do away with formal nights? What have you heard?

Dress up on formal nights I enjoy it and always have, it is a very important part of our cruise!! Whether they stop it or not doesn't matter, I still will, I don't think I will ever be asked to go back and change to something more appropriate!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

As I usually don't have too many reasons to get really, really dressed up, I hope formal nights continue. It seems as much a part of cruising as far as I'm concerned as traditional dining, big production shows, and the vast array of activities.

I don't mind if not everyone gets dressed up. Especially after dinner. If I'm still dressed up and going to a show, it doesn't matter to me if others in the audience are in shorts, etc. I don't believe people should have to stay in their cabins all night long just because they don't choose to dress up in a suit/tux or a dress/fancy pantsuit.

We are looking forward to the Dress Up nights... in fact, we may dress up MOST nights... though with just that extra bit of sparkle on Formal Nights

It's part of the whole week-long special Date quality of it, I think.

As you can see from my avatar picture, we do dress for formal night. Bob has owned a tux for a long time and we enjoy getting all gussied up! It makes the evening that much more special. It adds to the fairy tale quality of cruise ship life.

We stay dressed for the evening. I mean, when you look so good why take it off after dinner?

I often hear folks talk about comfort. My body is just as comfortable in formal wear as it is in shorts. If the clothes fit properly there should be no complaint of discomfort! Same for the gentlemen. If the shirt fits properly and the pants waistband is not too tight, why not be James Bond for the evening?

Of the mainstream cruise lines, I think NCL is the only one that doesn't have a "formal" night. You can dress as you like, including formally, but it's not a requirement as on other lines. I too hope they keep formal night. Although a tux can be a pain at times, I must admit it does look good, and Sue likes it. It also gives me a great chance to see lots of great looking women dressed to the nines....not that I'm looking at anyone but Lynda of course.

I would be very happy with the dress code of Azamara and Oceania. Especially now that luggage is restricted. Personally, I don't like the idea of shorts in the evening. (or any other sloppy dress). But if all DH had to bring is a sport jacket, it would be a lot easier to pack. I now wear the CHICO formalwear (LOL). The traveller line, dressed up can really go anywhere.

I used to joke that my wife wore Simon Chang, while I wore Cheech and Chong.

I know Simon Chang. But who are Cheech and Chong? Forgive my ignorance, but they sound like Gorillas!!!
