Liverpool resident and Cunard’s longest-serving four-stripe officer, Hotel Manager John Duffy, has received the prestigious Seatrade Insider Cruise Award ‘Seagoing Employee of the Year 2008’ in recognition of his long and distinguished service with the company and his service on board QE2.

His ability must have been apparent at a very young age, according to the blurb below. Have you met him, Stephen? He'll be on Queen Mary 2 when you sail in July.

In 1978, Duffy became the company’s youngest Hotel Manager when, at the age of 33, he took over that position on Cunard Princess.

Subsequently he became QE2’s youngest Hotel Manager in April 1981 and remained in that post longer than any other up to QE2’s retirement in November 2008. In 2008 he was presented with the Merchant Navy Medal for long and distinguished service. Duffy will join Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 in March 2009.

Yes I have met him quite a few times even been to a couple of his parties

Have not manage to have a conversation with him though. Maybe I will get the chance on QM2
