    World Poker Showdown Caribbean Cruise

Lars thought it might be ok for me to tell everyone about the WPS Caribbean Cruise aboard the Freedom of the Seas.

If you love both cruises and poker, this might be for you. My wife loves poker but is scared of the ocean. Any tips on convincing her? I would do it and cruises look like alot of bang for your buck. Any pointers would be appreciated.

The events will take place between April 25th and May 2, 2010.

There will be 12 events and super satellites played with buyins starting at $100 and going up to $500

The Main Event is a respectable $2500 No Limit Hold em Event.

Since this is my first post, I won't clutter it with links and flood it with information. Anyone that thinks they may have questions or are intrested in either the poker or the cruise ship, please leave them here and I will do my best. There is plenty of info listed at World Poker Showdown I can bring back here, including other activities, etc.

    Talk Soon!

    Jon, I'm scared of poker

Tell your other half there is nothing to be afraid of. Those ships are so darned big and sturdy most people don't even know they are on a cruise ship. And yes, the value is awesome for what you receive. Good luck

I'd rather be in a ship with plenty of lifeboats around in an emergency than in an airplane. But that's another show. Does the website say what poker or if any poker pros will be in attendance? I've played on the Explorer at the electronic poker table. I wonder if that's what they'd use or a live dealer.

I almost had her bite on a previous poker cruise. We haven't been of the coast of North America, so I would like to see as much as I can for as little as possible when it comes to the tropics This is far enough away she might be swayed. And she likes some of the people going and her birthday falls right in the middle of this. I have no problem with water. I manged to get her on a ferry from Sechelt to Vancouver, lol. Seriously, she likes the elegance of casinos, fine dining and hotels, just gotta get her to forget about the water. (more importantly the huge life and nature in it.)

As far as poker pros and electronic tables:

on the electronic tables, no, these are live events and will have dealers and cards and chips to toss around. WPS prides itself in poker vactions of the highest quality. Herb Van Dyke is the owner and while he might not be a household poker name to all, he is a WSOP HORSE event final tablist, to name one of many poker accomplishments.

You can expect alot of medium limit pros. Dan Fleyshman has taken an intrest in WPS events since the last series in Vegas an he is well liked and known by alot of top players.

There is a series in Costa Rica then the Dominican and many of the top Canadian Poker Tour, Vegas Series and World Poker Showdown players like to take these holidays. As far as the bigger names, hard to say yet. Almost every TV pro you can name has been hitting CPT/WPS events in the last few years and they do their best to attract them. I may have a better answer after Costa Rica.

One thing is for sure, Herb and Kelly like to party and that is what gets them playing. Alot of recreational players like myself will play the events and try to sat into the Main Event, which of course is for the top dogs. But hey, some one has to win it. There will also be cash games for those who like to play other than tourney.

    Jon,

Thanks so much for sharing the information about the WPS Cruise. While I am a frequent viewer of WPS tourneys on TV, I must admit to being a terrible player myself. As a result, I had a question that might interest other folks in my position:

DO cruises like this offer strategy sessions, introductory courses, and maybe even Question and Answer session with the pro's aboard?

I think folks like your wife, myself, and probably a lot of other recreational players out there might really get some enjoyment out of a couple of the ideas above. What are your thoughts?

HeadsUp Entertainment Inc. Announces Poker “Super Cruise” On Royal Caribbean’s “Freedom of the Seas”

    October 27, 2009 08:30 AM EDT

    CALGARY, Alberta, October 27, 2009/--

HeadsUp Entertainment Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of HeadsUp Entertainment International Inc. (the "Company") (PINK SHEETS: HDUP) is pleased to announce that it has completed an agreement with CI Travel to host a “Poker Super Cruise” on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines “Freedom of the Seas”, one of the world’s premiere sailing vessels. Partnered with the World Poker Showdown, this co-branded event takes place April 25th to May 2nd 2010 and features a series of tournaments ranging in buy in’s from $340 to the $2700 Main Event. Ports of call include the Bahamas, St. Thomas and St. Maarten and a full itinerary can be seen at www.royalcaribbean.com.
The event will be sanctioned by the Canadian Poker Tour (operated by HDUP) as a qualifying event towards its “Players Point Championships” and is expected to attract players from around the world. Celebrity and professional poker player attendees will be announced in the coming months and negotiations are underway with sponsors for full television coverage of the Main Event. This event is part of the Company’s strategy to develop revenues and opportunities internationally while monetizing its Canadian player base
Poker tourism has grown to become a major profit centre for the Company as they generate revenue from administration fees along with cash game rake revenue. This event will be one of the most profitable proprietary events throughout the year. “We are excited to be holding this event on such an incredible ship”, commented HeadsUp President Kelly Kellner, “and it looks to be an amazing experience for all of our participating players.” Details surrounding qualifying to attend through online poker room satellites will be unveiled in the upcoming issue of Canadian Poker Player Magazine, as well as through further Company announcements.
