Do you prefer large tables or small tables?

When we started cruising many years ago, I enjoyed the dining experience, sitting at large tables and meeting new people. Now, it seems we prefer small, intimate tables for 2 or our party size. We have sat with many people who were absolutely wonderful but we have also been seated with those who didn't talk, talked way too much, asked very personal questions, bragged about their jobs, felt their political views should be heard had no manners whatsoever, so on and so forth. I guess we just want to be comfortable and enjoy ourselves now. Outside of personal choice dining, this seems to be more and more difficult as most tables are large and the smaller ones are few and far between.

Just wondering what others feel and what their experiences and preferences are.

Being a solo traveller, I like the choice I get regarding where to sit and with whom. I spose thats one of the main benefits of Freestyle with NCL, I can literally please myself completely.

Sometimes the company of others makes a refreshing change and at other times I much prefer my own company. Insofar as I am concerned, alot depends on what my mood is at the time.

I agree though, sometimes the people you are sat with can put you right off your meal for a multitude of reasons. So I guess 75% of the time I sit alone and eat in my own peace.

Good question though and bound to get some very interesting answers

We travel with family, so it is a large table!! But the couple of times Dickie and I went alone, we had a table for two!! Just for the peace of it!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

If we aren't travelling with friends.........always ask for a table of 8 so we can meet other cruisers..........but last few cruises we have cruised with enough friends we always cross reference and eat with each other.

We like smaller tables, both of us work in industries where we interact with people constantly, so for us luxury is not having to make small talk over dinner.

Small tables. A 2 is our normal request, and we'll wait for it if necessary. Like englishtrish we're peopled out by the time we get aboard. If we meet somebody on a cruise who we'd like to dine with, we'll ask for a 4. It has happened a couple of times. That's the value of Princess and NCL cruises.

If DH are traveling alone, we like a table of no more than 6-8. 2-3 other couples and we usually have a great time. Our last experience without a large family group, we had a table of 8. 4 couples and DH and I were the youngest. The gentlemen with us were all WWII vets (one US Navy, One USAF and the other Royal AF) and I learned so much. What a wonderful experience that was!

We tend to sit at tables of 6-8 and have lucked out in that all our tablemates have been wonderful on past cruises...on our most recent cruise, having dinner was the highlight of our evening!!
