Talking Private Island or Extra Sea Day ????

Private Island or Extra Sea Day ????

For us it would depend on what the private island is, we love HMC but dont care for Princess Cays. Havent been to any others yet but if we didnt like them we would prefer sea day LOL

That's easy... you just stay on the ship when everyone else tenders over to the private island, and voila! You have a sea day, and on a nearly empty ship to boot!

That's how we treat port days in Nassau.
You can only enjoy Nassau so many times...

That's exactly how we feel.. We live just minutes from the beach and hardly go anymore, so private islands, with exception of HMC don't excite us.. We stay on the ship, where the only chaise hog to put up with is an occasional seagull...

Really? Please tell us about it, THL - what is the name of it, which cruiseline owns it, and what made it 'awesome?'

It was with Radisson's ship the Paul Gauguin. They own an island in Tahiti that looks like Gilligan's Island...pure white sandy beaches and those kind of palm trees that lean way out into the water and then curve up a little. You know what I mean? Just picture postcard perfect. The interior was jungle-like with flowering plants I've never seen before and sandy trails to explore that mostly led to different beaches, and interesting rock formations here and there. Anyway, they groom the place spotlessly clean, but leave it natural looking, so it's pristing but with coconuts and seashells to find. There are hammacks and lawn chairs hidden in little nooks and crannies and down on the beaches. But the water itself is my favorite part. This island was an ancient volcano, so it's surrounded by what looks like a coral reef but it's actually the rim of the volcano that eroded away. It makes a circle around the whole island, and everything inside this ring is calm and clear as a swimming pool...no waves at all...and the water is crystal clear and the most amazing shades of blues and greens you ever saw. There was coral and tropical fish...the whole thing looked like an aquarium. Laid out for us were snorkels, masks and fins as well as kayaks, tubes and rafts. We snorkeled and kayaked and had a great time...except when my DH tried to go on the other side of the volcanic edge, but that's another story!! (I still say he was trying to get us killed...he still calls me a wuss). There was a bartender handing out free drinks the entire day...all sorts of South Pacific creations that were REALLY strong...and bottled water and soda were free, sitting around in big iced down tubs. They had long tables set up in the middle of the island with some great food, lots of gourmet dishes including Tahitian specialties, loads of shrimp and crab as well as the usual bbq luau type stuff, the roasted pig and hamburgers/hot dogs, etc. Getting there and back by tender was easy...since the Gauguin only holds about 350 people the tenders carried about 20 of us at a time and there was never any standing in line for anything...not the transportation, not the food. It really was paradise!

    Sea day!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I hope you have a wonderful time. Just take my word for it, don't even try to paddle that kayak outside the volcanic rim!!!
