Julie, I used to think that way- and certainly after our cruise on the QE2 last year where we had caviar, pate de foie fras, Duck a L'Orange, and Cherries Jubilee...all at the same meal!!!!, I 'd agree with you, but, haven't you ever been on a long cruise, and just wanted to take a break from the richness? I remember a 17 Crystal cruise, where, on about day 14, we all agreed that all we wanted for lunch was a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup- expertly prepared, and served to us in the dining room. A bit of heaven.

On to the rankings for Pizza (no burger experience):

    1. Cunard Grills-wow, it really stopped being pedestrian fare...

    2. Celebrity-the new indoor pizza station where you can "order your own" I had goat cheese, sun-dried tomato, artichoke, and pesto! (When the pizza was out by the pool with the burgers, it was awful...) This past May,upon boarding, I had scallop pizza that was darned good- scallops not overcooked, which is easy to do.

    3. Crystal- when room service used to deliver it to where ever you were on the ship, on a silver platter- for me, it was always 2:00 a.m., in the disco! )

And, in last place, a pizza I found TOTALLY inedible:

    4. Princess. Sun Princess, and from the Italian place....not good.:thumbsdow It might have been because we ordered it in the middle of the afternoon, and they weren't up to speed, but the crust was neither crispy NOR doughy, but cardboard-like, and the toppings had no discernable flavor- the cheese was plastic-y...(Gee, Andrew, did you like it?)

But, if I'm able to be on almost any cruise ship, I'm willing to forgive a lot of sins in the pizza department! I think I should give them another try, hearing so many favorable reviews here.

    French Fries-

    1. Tie to: Cunard and Crystal.
    2. Celebrity's aren't bad...

    didn't have any Princess ones...so can't rank.

Maybe part of the problem is I hardly ever eat fast food at home, so I don't crave it and it doesn't feel like 'comfort food' to me...even when on a cruise.

Oh yes I know what you mean about too much rich food...you can have it up to here with fancy sauces, desserts and all the gourmet creations. Sometimes enough is enough! But when I want to get away from all that what I really crave is very plain food like maybe a grilled chicken breast on white rice with a green salad. And sometimes for breakfast I will have a bowl of Total or oatmeal when everybody around me is eating a thousand versions of eggs benedict. Maybe that's my comfort food!

Andrew you must have caught the Sun on a bad day. The pizza we had there this past winter was really good, a close second to the Island Princess earlier.

Still the only decent burger I've had on a cruise was on our first, the NCL Sky.

Fries? Haven't seen a decent one yet on any cruise. I come from potato country and if they're not fresh cut, forget it. We also claim the company that sells the most frozen fries in the business. No matter how good they are, they can't touch fresh cut.

Even though you're a cat person, and I'm a dog person, I'll take your advice- so many have said it's good. That said, it's probably not going to be the deciding factor in booking my next cruise!

And Julie, I have to admit that I DO have a taste for pizza and fries every once in a while- some junk/fast food is just plain good! But pizza is NOT necessarily either. Come to San Francisco, and I'll take you to Pauline's. As I said about Cunard, pizza can be elevated from the pedestrian, and when it is, it's amazing. (Of Course, my partner likes plain pepperoni...) I prefer the foofy gourmet stuff- I made smoked duck, gorgonzolla and fig pizza as an hors d'oeuvre, and it was everyone's fav.!

Oh I know about The City. I lived in Palo Alto and kept horses near Stanford most of my adult life. And I totally agree, San Francisco has some of the best food on the planet! I have never been to Pauline's...but some of the other food there are just to die for, so I imagine pizza in SF is great too!

Love the location of the Burger Grill on "Sun Class" PRINCESS ships! It overlooks the BAND & Pool Area!

Once, we were munching a Hamburger while the band below was playing .... "Hamburger In Paradise"!
