Hi all. Looking at Celebrity Millenium for 1st cruise out of San Juan - 10 day S Caribbean.
Problem - have read many negative reviews about the food, time it takes to get food, poor cabin condition & unfirendly crew.
Can anyone comment on these issues who has cruised on Mille recently - last 3 months or so. We do not want to make a poor decision.
Second idea is cruise on Royal Caribbean mariner of Seas to Mexico 7 days - read it is an exciting ship with lots to keep one occupied. Comments please
Thanks for your help
I have not sailed on Celebrity, but have sailed on RC, but not the Mariner. I have heard good and bad on both lines. Most of the time it's a "personal" thing. I love RC and also can tell you that we have never ever had a bad cruise on RC. If I were you and being new to cruising, I might think about the difference in prices at this point. Either line will be a great experience. I personally like the Caribbean better than the Mexican cruises. But that's just me.

My experience with Celebrity has been completely opposite from what you have stated. I feel that Celebrity has the best food, service and ships of any mass market or premium cruise line. The crerw is among the most friendly helpful, accomodating and professional of any cruise line.
On the other hand, I found the food on Mariner to be less than satisfactory without even a decent steak on the main dining room menu that didn't have a $14.95 surcharge. Granted, you will never be at a loss for activities on Mariner and it does have all the bells and whistles but the food and service takes a distant second place to Celebrity.
We have saile the Mariner, though it's been a while, and it's a big, beautiful ship, with lots of things to keep you amused. We always enjoy Royal Caribbean - always. That said, the Mariner is not our favorite RC ship, due to its size and the fact that there is SO much to do onboarad... We prefer a smaller ship, with a more relaxing atmosphere.
Our one sailing with Celebrity was tremendous - loved it. Loved the ship, the service, everything about it. But, unfortunately, that cruise was on the Zenith, which no longer sails for Celebrity.
We have cruised out of San Juan once, and haven't been tempted to do so again. San Juan itself is lovely, great place to visit, LOTS to see. The itinerary for the Southern Caribbean is beautiful as well. But the degree of organization (or lack thereof) at the airport, the cruise pier, and with regard to the boarding and disembarkation processes made for a harried, stressful, and and unpleasant beginning and ending to a journey through some beautiful islands.
