What is the major differences between the different cruise lines and their ships?
What are the grand class ships and why are they so special?
Where does Princess fall in?
Thanks for any answers!

You're going to get as many answers to these questions as there are people!
One thing you'll learn very quickly is that while all cruise lines are different, all ships are different, and all food is different, they are all the same in some fashion.
Keep in mind that, like I've always said, what one person loves, another will hate. This is so very true with cruises.
Also, one ship can often provide an entirely different experience from another ship within the same cruise line or even within the same class of ships. And sometimes, you can get a completely different experience on the same ship. For example; we've been on the Grandeur of the Seas three times and while the first two times were very similar, the third time was completely different. We've been on several ships twice and been amazed by the difference. There can be some parts good and other parts bad, then go on the same ship again and what was good is now bad and vice versa.
It's funny how some people are - I have a client who will only sail on one ship, period. They won't even consider anything else - it's like their home-away-from-home. While others never want to sail on the same ship twice or even the same class of ship.
Bottom line is the best part about cruising is trying everything until you find the best one or ones that are right for you!

Carnival doesn't give any freebees to past guests anymore where as RCCL gives baseball caps (good for Advertisement)even at pool contests they give a little plastic model of a ship where they should give shirt or cap with name of of Carnival ship on it

Pete, while I totally agree with you in some respects, I have noticed every time people talk about the dress code, they mention the fact NCL basically does not have one (except for a ban on nudity in public areas, I assume) and every other cruise line has at least one formal and one semim-formal night. That tells me some things are specific to one cruise line and not individual ships in its fleet. I wonder what other company-specific policies are worth thinking about for people trying to choose a cruise line.
Iv always gotten a freebie on Carnival. Lately got the pen and paper set thaat is nice. Two times before that I got the cooler. Im also now platinum so on cruises 5 days and longer I get the ship pin.
As far as RCL, my Emerald gift is now some kind of fruit and nut basket type of thing. Nothing to keep. I also get to choose 4 beverages, either cokes or juice. I choose OJ on my upcoming cruise, but not I get to keep with RCL logo on it.
So far I have only won one ship on a stick you refer to. For a ping pong contest I won. They now mostly give medals more so than the "coveted" ship on a stick on Carnival.
I just sailed Carnival in February and they still give the ships on a stick to first place in all cntests. The medals were given when some contests had more than one section and the runnerups got them while the winner still got the ship on the stick. I guess each ship is different.
