Half Moon Cay or Key West?

We are trying to decide between 2 cruises on the Carnival Fascination. One week it goes to Half Moon Cay, the next week to Key West. We have two teenage boys and 3 year old girl. We have been to the Bahamas before, so we're wondering about Pros and Cons of private island (we've been on Royal Carr.'s island) vs Key West.

To me, I think I would enjoy Key West more . They've got the beach attractions, restaurants, shopping, museums, etc., as well as historical places, such as the "Little White House", where Harry Truman both worked and relaxed during his term (this could be a "sneaky history lesson"). If all you want is a day on the beach, I would go with the private island. I've had the experience, however, where many did not want to go to a private island, if they weren't interested in a private beach, a small lunch buffet, not to mention taking small "tenders" (small boats) just to go for a few hours. It depends how built up their private island is. Do they have showers to wash off the salt water? Do they have beach chairs? I'm sure others will chime in on these comments.

We've been to Half Moon Cay several times - it's one of our all-time favorite private islands compared to all the others. It's absolutely beautiful!

But I agree with Sandie; if you want a day at the beach, then do Half moon Cay. But if you want activities, places to go, and things to do, it's tough to beat Key West.

I would prefer Half Moon Cay over Key West. I have been to both. Key West has some fun History, lots of shops and bars. But I think all ages would enjoy what HMC has to offer. (as long as you like beach activities)

If it is history, shopping, etc that interests you -- then Key West.

But if you like the beach -- HMC -- soft sand and tons of activities there -- stringray adventure -- horseback riding -- they even have a children's aqua park.

We love both places -- but your children would probbably like HMC better.
