Suppose you were booking a cruise that you just HAD to go on, but your ONLY two cabin choices were A) Oceanview with a PORTHOLE, or b) Oceanview with a full window, but and OBSTRUCTED view.
wow tough question... But if the porthole was the old fashioned kind that actually opened up... we would do that..(we love the fresh air and despise the the recirculated stuff) ..but if it would not open we would go with the FULL window obstructed or not..
I think I would have to choose obstructed view, too.
Porthole cabins are usually on much lower decks than the obstructed view ones (obstruction is often a lifeboat) and I don't care for the lower decks.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart
Obstructed. Our cabin on Carnival Glory was obstructed by the window washer scaffold, but we could see plenty and the light was just the same as if it wasn't obstructed. By the way, this was our third oceanview cabin...we usually book balconies! LOL! Still prefer balconies.
I was thinking of the episode of Lucy when she gets stuck... thats the port hole I was referring to! LOL
Thanks for reminding me of this episode! Hadn't thought of it in years!

Which would you choose, and why?
With those two options I'd probably say "Just give me an INSIDE!" I could save money and cut on the TV to the "Bridge" for my ocean view!
Since I have to pick from the two options offered, I'd go with the PORTHOLE! A porthole would remind me of my old cruising days when we didn't have the big windows which are the norm now ....

We've only had insides and non-obstructed ocean views so not sure about the porthole. If the curtains are nice and thick (for early morning so we don't wake up earlier than needed), then the OV's. I guess the obstruction would be lifeboats or some support poles.
