Well we have only been on one cruise and we had a porthole. The upcoming cruise we are in a mini suite. My experience with a porthole was fine. We choose that cabin because it was on a low deck in the middle of the ship. I was afraid of being motion sick so for our 1st cruise it was only 5 days long and we pick mid ship, low deck to make sure I would handle cruising ok. If I had to choice between obstructed view or a port hole I would look at price 1st since the only thing the window is good for is to check outside weather and location but not to spend any time gazing out of. second and thrid I would look at location of the cabin and cabin size. If I was going to be under a stage/dance floor I might choose the other cabin even if the cabin is smaller but if neither is a noisy location I would look at size of the cabin. 4th may be a thought process of what kind of seas are we likely to experience, if likely to experience rough seas I may look like to be mid ship lower deck with a port hole. I am still afraid of motion sickness even though I did fine on our 1st crusie. I even get myself car sick when I do the driving, it is worse if I don't drive. I hate airplanes, and cars but so far cruising is great!
