Did you know there is a whole fairly recent thread dedicated to this exact same topic?

    Check this out...

But I will answer your question here as well.

It's a matter of personal taste. Personally, I like Hawaii way better. I just like the South Pacific island atmosphere and lifestyle much better than the Caribbean atmosphere. I even like the look of Hawaii better...I like the variety of the landscape from rain forests with tall waterfalls to lava flows, to black sand beaches...and just about everything in between. I like Hawaii's people better. I don't like aggressive sales people trying to get me to buy a straw hat. I am not into the Raggae scene. But I do like watching hula dancers by tiki torch light on the beach...I like hearing the old Hawaiians playing ukaleles softly and singing the old Hawaiian songs. If you tune in to a Hawaiian radio station while you're there you will get a sense of their dry, funny sense of humor but also their highly family oriented lifestyle. You just can't help but like these people. Nothing in the Caribbean compares to to the Hawaiian culture and "feel", in my opinion. Of course I am not talking about the Waikiki tourist trap strip, I am talking about getting out into the real Hawaii.

Now if a person was to just compare both places by listing only activities, I could see why someone might say the Caribbean is much better. I can see why it would appeal to younger people, in particular. It definitely has more to do, and is geared more to accomodating tourists who are just popping in for a quick visit. If you mainly want to swim with dolphins, parasail, jetski, shop at lots of jewelry stores and souvenier shops, and maybe spend a little time at American style bars selling sweet rum drinks with little umbrellas in them...then the Caribbean would be the place to choose.

Having been to both Hawaii and the Carribean I will say I think Hawaii is the better choice it truely is what a tropical island should be.

To me there is no comparrison, Caribbean wins hands down!!! Prices are better, sunny more often, seas are calmer and better beaches for swimming. Hawaii was nice but I never get tired of the Caribbean and you can get there faster at least from MN.
