Unfortunately for my family, Oceania doesn't have a children's program (and I understand it's a bit pricey, unless I'm mistaken). Too bad.

That's it, all non smokers go on Oceana, leave the rest of the ships for us.

Out on deck on Celebrity ships, I've had to carefully explain several times that "port = left" and "starboard = right" to the landlubbers that still don't understand that smoking is permitted on the port side. Trouble is, when we're in port and not moving, they even seem to get "left" and "right" confused. The clear presence of quite a number of ashtrays on one side and none on the other doesn't seem to be clue enough. There's no helping some people!

As a smoker, I am a considerate one and do obey all the rules. I must agree with the poster who stated that non-smokers do occupy the very few tables allowed for smokers around the pool. So I can stand by the rail and use the standing ashtray WHICH IS FILLED WITH PAPER TRASH!!! Everyone is concerned about recent fires on cruise ships so why not use some common sense and use the trash cans instead of our few ashtrays. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

the information about MSC has to be updated. I am going on an april cruise on the lirica and i was told by the cruise line that there is no smoking in the cabins at all. Just thought I would let you know.

I just saw previous post about MSC Lirica in April. I freaked. We booked quite a while ago on the MSC Opera for April 1. There was no mention of non smoking at that time. I'm calling my agent for furthur confirmation or possibly cancel.

I for one am not surprised by this development. Going forward, I believe that we will see more and more restrictive smoking policies on all cruise lines. I dont think it will be banned, but confining smoking to limited areas and precluding lighting up in cabins and balconies will be the norm in the near future is my prediction. The question is will confining smoking to designated areas cause a great number of smokers to opt for alternative vacations and cease cruising?

If verandas become subject to such rules, yes.

Update on MSC. Spoke with my agent, she called the cruiseline. Smoking in cabins is not banned, but in so many words, discouraged it, even to the point of not providing ashtrays. I won't cancel now, but will abide and keep the smoking to a bare minimum while in the cabin!! It was also brought up about the Paradise returning to smoking due to the non smoking issue. I thank you Jeff or Jeffs for your reasonable thoughts on the subject, I've read some of your past posts and know you feel strongly about this issue. Just remember, we are not all angels, and we all have negative habits whether we admit it or not.
