Both can be considered equally important. There are actually a number of other questions that should be answered in order to make your Cruise the most enjoyable you could possibly have. With the many ships and the variety of dining and entertainment being offered some ships are better suited to certain groups. Most however have so much to offer. What you don't want ia a surprise. Find a good travel agent willing to ask you the appropriate questions and you won't be dissapointed.
It is a great experience as well as a great value and one that will have you coming back for more.

Usually ship first then itinerary. BUT there is a caveat on that, I usually have a general idea of where I want to go and decide that first and then look at the ships that are going to that area. I'm not going to choose an itinerary I wouldn't like but I look at it this way when choosing a cruise - if something happens and the itinerary changes completely, am I still going to be happy on that ship? For my Southern Caribbean cruise this past Spring I debated between RCCL and Carnival for a similar itinerary. I actually prefered Carnival's itinerary but I knew I loved RCCL's ships. As it turned out the week I sailed, the Carnival ship had propulsion problems, missed most of its ports, and was extremely late back into San Juan. Itineraries change, ports get missed, etc so I try to make sure I will be happy even if we don't make any of our original ports.

First we look at dates...next, we decide where we want to go...then we go to the cruiselines to see what itineraries we like, we look at Princess first, now, then RCI then Carnival...

Where we're going and what we're going to do when we get there is the main reason I go on any trip. Once that's been decided, I just choose which Regent (Radisson) ship will take me there. Simple!

Well, it's like this! Except for one cruise, which was on my "to do" list (Constellation to British Isles and Scandinavia), all of our cruises have been chosen for their value. We have been consistent with Celebrity, but other than that, the choice has been based on time of year (winter) and price. By now, we have done most of the warm weather itineraries at great prices. What next? Maybe land?

What we really want is an itinerary we like on one of the cruise lines we like!
