Crown Princess - Dissatisfied Crew Member Quits

A friend of mine, at work, has a son who was working security on the Crown Princess. He has just quit and is expected home either today or tomorrow. My friend told me that her son was extremely disgusted with how the crew were treated. He reported that there were obvious differences in how crew were treated based on their nationality. He reported that no one on the ship could provide him with any answers or help when a passenger had a problem (I think it was a medical problem but could not say for sure). He said he was told he would be able to eat in the dining room with other staff but instead he was fed rice and curry every day in the crew cafeteria. He also reported that this ship does not have the full compliment of staff it should have - does this mean that passengers are not getting the service they should be?

I would like to hear from anyone who has sailed on the Crown - I think she's only had one sailing - as to how you found the service on the ship, did you notice they were short staffed?

I'm wondering if some of his issues are not the result of this ship's first sailing and getting the "kinks" worked out.

It might be just the "kinks" cause when the CB (Caribbean Princess) started sailing she didn't have a full compliment of staff either.

That's one reason why I never rush to be on the very first cruise of a new ship. It's like an automanufacturer introducing a new model automobile for the first time, lots of problems. I get that model a year or two later after the kinks have been worked out.

I agree with you MD11F. Let the cruise line work out all the "bugs" of a new ship, new staff, etc. then go on that ship.

Apparently the mother spoke to her son Thursday night and he said they gave him a great farewell, some parting gifts, and told him he could reapply if he wished to go back on the ship (from what I understand they gave him a 12-month window to do this).

Please keep us updated if he decides to return. Has he asked about transferring to another ship?

I wonder how many of the crew on the Crown came from another ship with experience. Our room steward from our Island Princess cruise last December said he was going to start work this summer on the Crown and said we should consider taking a cruise on it.

When we went on the Sapphire in its third month of sailing, our head waiter was our assistant waiter on the Star the year before. She said that the crew sailed together from Japan as a way to work out the kinks before paying customers started coming aboard.

Our (fantastic) room steward on our Caribbean Princess cruise last October/November was also expecting to be on the Crown.
