    Excursions in Cozumel: Any ideas?????

I was recently notified by Carnival that due to the hurricane damage that the Dolphin Excursions will not be available when we cruise on Labor Day 2006.

Since this is our first cruise, and this was the only excursion we had booked, does anyone have any other ideas???

We are also going to Playa Del Carmen- excurision for that would be great too.

I've never done an excursion in Cozumel, I always just find myself walking around that beautiful little town. Very fun. So if you don't end up doing one don't worry, there is lots to do.

We hired a private tour when we got off the tender. I'll give you the name of the company. We had a fantastic time. He took us around the island and would have stopped to snorkel if we had wanted to. The cost depends on how many people you have in your party. Generally expect about $25 per person for about 4 hours.
The company :Special Service Taxi Union.

Or driver's name was Ubaldo and he was just great! He took us to some Mayan ruins in El Cidral and then toured us through the city. It was fascinating.
We've also done the Atlantis Submarine, I believe it's still operating.
The all inclusive beach excursions are fun too if you like to lay in the sun and drink!

    CozumelTours.com

is the website for the tour guide we used in January 2006. Our son used him on February 6, 2006 and also enjoyed the personal island tour provided by Harry with CozumelTours.com.

Harry has lived on the island for years; he is a retiring Ohio police officer. He will tailor a tour to your interests. For example, we "love lighthouses", so Harry made sure we went to all of the lighthouses on Cozumel. He handles one tour a day, from 2 to 4 people. You are squired around in a new air-conditioned SUV. Cost is $60 pp for full day tour. (4-6 hours)

Just got back from Cozumel. It is still beautiful despite the hurricane damage. We got off the tender and rented a V.W. convertible ($60.00 for all day with fullnsurance coverage). We cut across the island on Middle Island Road to the backside. It was great! Miles & miles of deserted beaches, bars, and vendors along the way. Best trip ever.

That sounds like fun, lucaslaw. Did you have any problems with driving in Mexico? I have a bit of a phobia about that. Did you pre arrange your rental or just take care of it when you got to Cozumel?

That does sound great. We were going to be there from 9:00am-10:00pm, but since the itinerary switch, we will only be there 8:00am-4:00pm.

Has anyone done the cave excursion by jeep, or the underwater submarine?

Driving was fine. Didnt see any police officials enforcing traffic laws. I think they are too busy controlling the intersections because many are still without lights due to the hurricanes.

We rented at the dock. Basic rental was about $30.00 for the day. There were four of us so it was great. The full insurance coverage cost about $60.00.

It was really fun driving around in the vintage V.W. convertible in the open air. We had thought about renting scooters but decided on the car. It was better because we were together in comfort, able to drive much faster and cover more area, and had room to carry all of our stuff.
