Is it hard to get a taxi?

We'll be in Cozumel in May on the Oasis. It seems like all the tours including the ship tours are just a short ride by taxi?

I am envisioning very long taxi lines with 5000 or so people?

Should I look for a private prereserved tour by van? There are seven of us going.

    Thanks!

We were on the Oasis in Feb and took a taxi in Cozumel to go downtown. There was a line that was kind of long but moved along pretty quickly. I would say we waited around 15 mins. They had regular sedan taxis and vans. It cost the same $7 per couple and they have you get in whichever was available.

I'm doing a blow-by-blow report of my Oasis cruise which I started last week. It's slow going since I do have to work to afford these cruises and there's just so much to the ship! I'm also trying to remember everything since it's been over a month ago. You can read it here:

Jen .... We've found it the same as Janice in Cozumel but weren't there on Oasis. Glad to know it's still be about the same -- long line that moves fairly quickly. We found that the best way to get to anyplace other than town was to go to town first and then take a taxi from there to where we really wanted to go.

On 1/12/12 we will be in Cozumel on Crown Princess with lots of other ships in port with us that day: Oasis , Millennium, Carnival Paradise, and Carnival Ecstasy. Probably about 15,000 total.

Thinking it might be a good time to book a shore excursion through the ship!

Lulu, we were there with 2 Carnival ships AND the Epic! It really wasn't that crowded downtown. Didn't have to elbow anyone!

    Thanks again.

I have heard that downtown is not as crowded since Carnival opened their new pier. As it has so much of what downtown has, including a Los Cinco Soles and Pancho's Backyard. People are just staying there to shop and eat, I guess?

I was thinking of just booking a tour thru the ship also, and alot of times they drop you off downtown if you want. But most of the tours on the Royal Caribbean website say that the tour starts with a taxi ride. So that's what prompted my original post. Maybe they have a separate taxi line if you are on a tour?

Yes, the tour group will be lined up together in an area and they'll put you in prearranged taxis.
