Mayan Ruins ... Have you ever been to one while on a port stop in Cozumel?

Have you ever been to a Mayan Ruins while on a port stop in Cozumel?

If so, which one? Would you like to do it again ... or maybe go to another?

If not, would you like to go to a Mayan Ruins?

We went to Tulum on our first cruise to cozumel. And really enjoyed it. What with the time for the ferry ride and then the bus ride it is a tour you really have to do thru the ship. Then last year in Belize we went to Xunantunich, it is almost all the way to Guatamala so again a tour you really have to do thru the ship but definitely well worth it.

If you are only wanting to do one then Xunatunich is probably the nicest as you can actually climb one of the monuments and the site is really nice. Plus there is much more to see on the bus ride.

I really don't think that any are really worth going to more than once. But if you are interested then visiting all the different ones you can is the way to go. Each site has a different history. The Mayans were a large population and each group while having some of the same things that they did there were also differences.

I would like to visit more if possible.

The Chacchoben ruins in Costa Maya, Mexico were great. Besides the pyramids you can look down at the current excavations and their is a whole town of ruins. On our cruise there were ruins at everyport, guatemala, belize, cozumel and costa maya. I'm glad we chose these as they were fascinating, even though the others are probably great too, I really enjoy going to these type of places and seeing the way things were in the past.

We went to Chichen Itza for a full day from Cozumel.

It's one of those things I'm glad I've done ... but would never want to do again.

My late wife and I did Xunantanich from Belize City in 1994 then a couple in Honduras and Guatemala in 1995. Did several others on the Yucatan driving around a couple of years later.

I intend to go to Chaccchoben when the Nieuw Amsterdam calls at Costa Maya next March.

We did Tulum on our first cruise in Dec 2003. It is still one of my favorite experiences.

We did the Mayan ruins during our stop in Cozumel and both Hubby and I agree that we would NEVER DO THAT AGAIN.

Yes, the ruins were both beautiful and interesting, IF YOU COULD FIND A SPOT TO LOOK AT THEM AMONGST THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER TOURISTS THAT WERE ALL AROUND. It was busier than a day at Disney world and there were tons of tour buses in front of us and in back of us, it felt like we were being corralled.

Visited Tulum. Great ruins. GREAT beach if you bring swim duds. Pretty good cultural presentation.
