We always go to Playa Mia Beach. It's a great place & you can do the all inclusive package. It's all you can drink ( and I mean good drinks ! ) & all you can eat buffet. If you don't want to do the buffet, you can just pay the admission with the drink package & get something to eat ala cart at the restaurant. There is lots to do there & the beach is beautiful.

I have a question about that. Is there just an admission to the beach without the all-you-can drink? I don't drink at all (can't stand the bitter taste of alcohol) and DH doesn't drink a lot more than I do. He didn't touch a drop on our last cruise, even though I don't discourage him from it. Guess he doesn't like to drink by himself, so if I'm not drinking, he's not drinking. So all-you-can-drink doesn't make much sense for us. But we're definitely hitting the beach in Coz this time.

Yes, you can just pay the admission. If you want anything, it's all available ala cart.

Go to Paradise Beach. It's very pretty and they have good food and drinks as well.

We ended up going to Paradise Beach on the advice of our taxi driver. He "hooked us up" with his friend. I don't know about "very pretty," but it was nice enough. The water was a bit murky near the beach. But rather than doing a bunch of swimming, DH went parasailing and I rented a wave runner. It turned out to be a good place to go. There's no admission fee, but I think they expect you to buy food if you sit in their chairs. That was okay with us, the food was excellent. The guys running the parasailing operation were very professional, too.
The beach itself was fairly crowded - I can only imagine what it must be like in the summer when the cruise ship is full - but we didn't have any trouble finding chairs and settling in with some tasty food.
The one main problem with Paradise Beach is that when there are more than 2 or 3 ships in port it gets very crowded. The other thing that bothers me about Paradise is that if you use a credit card, for your purchases, they add on a 20% service charge.
Due the crowding issue we prefer Nachi Cocum because they limit the number of people in their areas to 100 max. Even with 100 people it is not at all crowded.

Your Friendly NCL Navigator, John If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.
A bad day at sea is better than a good day at work.

I had heard that about Paradise Beach and my initial thought was to avoid it. But since we were going to be there in December when the ships weren't full anyway, we were pretty safe. There were exactly four ships in port the day we were there. It was fairly full, but not crowded. My bigger concern was finding a beach that had the activities we wanted to do without having to pay an all-inclusive fee for alcohol (which we don't do). I think if we cruised in the summer, this could prove to be more of a problem.
That 20% service charge is just the tip. I would have given that anyway. So I didn't have a problem with them adding it on. Although I guess I would have if I had received poor service.
I did seriously consider Nachi Cocum for the reason you mention. I still have it on my list for the future.
We have gone as many as 4 to 5 times a year and never grow tired of it.
We go to Paradise Beach every time and the boys get to enjoy a day of water toys while I "rest" in the shade with my frozen drink in my hand!!
After all these years of going there...we had never gone to the East side. We finally did that earlier this month. January 3rd. We hired a private driver (Hey Gerry) for $95.00 for 3 hours (total...not per person). (additional hours are $25 per hour) There were 4 of us and we designed our own tour. We went where we wanted to go and stayed as long as we wanted to...it was wonderful.
We bar hopped down the East side starting at Mez. (naked beach).... we got there (and to Coconuts) before they opened (on purpose) ...we had the boys with us and I don't know how "interesting" these two places can get....so we went to see them before they opened.
The good news is even when they are "closed"....they are OPEN...because it is primitive over there...no electricity...they have to haul purified water and ice every day....so the bars there are very OPEN.
We hit all the bars and the porous rock area (where the surf shoots up through the rock).
Gerry picked us up at the pier and we ended our tour at Paradise Beach so that we could spend a few hours there. Then we grabbed another taxi back to the ship.
Gerry speaks wonderful English and really gave us more than our money's worth. He will even bring an ice chest with him IF you want to stop at a grocery and grab some ice, drinks and beer.
We made our reservations with Gerry on line. It did not require any credit card info....and we paid cash at the end of our tour.
It was a great day. It make me love Cozumel even more!!!
