I have no fond memories of snorkeling in Cozumel. We picked a shore excursion according to the literature in the Carnival Celebration. I don't remember the name of it, but it seems it was something about a National Park Reserve or Reef. Anyway, we waited for what seemed forever for us to load in the boats to take us on this 30 minutes boat ride to the island. The waves were just big enough that swimming against them would cause the sea water to come up & over into the snorkel. You couldn't see a thing because the sand was being so stirred up. One of the girls in our group (55+ years old) had never snorkeled before. So the Mexican guide was going to teach her & he literally dragged her way out there to the reef. She was so worn out by the time she got back, I'm sure she'll never snorkel again! When it was time to return, we waited for what seemed forever again to return to the boat. This island wasn't anything pretty to look at, the shoreline was rocky. The only thing left to do was sit in the shade & drink Coronos! The Mexican guides told us that it was a good day to snorkel; the winds were calm! I've snorkeled in other countries & believe me the winds were not calm!
Now, on the flip side.....I have been told by family members that there are some wonderful places to snorkel & they think the best snorkel & scuba is there in Cozumel. Someone else told me it all depended upon "where" you snorkeled & if its the windy side of the island. So, I'm interested to see where others say are great places in Cozumel.
