Oh Z !!!!! I love seeing this, they have done a wonderful job putting back together Chankanaab!!! I noticed a few less palm trees and looks like the reef took a good hit but lots left of it and was wonderful seeing! Awesome photo's! Thanks!

The palapas have been rebuilt but were taken down for Hurricane Dean / Felix. Since things have calmed down weather-wise, I imagine they have put them back up.

They had also fished Jesus (statue) out of the sea so he wouldn't get blown away if the hurricanes had come a calling.

I was surprised that there were some surviving coral heads at Chankanaab - I guess it is a little more protected than some of the other areas.

I compared my photos with yours and there is not much difference, we can see the Palapa poles and it looks like they have just as many as before Thanks!
