I have been told the one downtown is alive and well. Of course, the one at the Puerto Maya port (Carnival's pier) is still gone.

Actually the one at Puerto Maya was open Dec 2005.I would think it still is.

Some stuff was still running on generators.

    Great picture:

To the OP: Puerto Maya is the Carnival dock that was completely destroyed in Wilma. Carnival is currently using it to tender in passengers when there are to many ships to dock at Punta Langosta. They are SLOWLY (and I mean snails move faster) rebuilding the pier but apparently the locals don't wait around if they had this up and running 3 months later.

We have been to Cozumel 3 times since October and have not tendered in yet (we always dock at PL) and from driving by it looks less than "active". Glad to see the shops are moving faster than the dock builders. We are headed back in August and since there will only be 2 ships in port, my guess is that we will dock at PL again. We may have to "drop by" the ole dock and see how much progress had been made.

There is no real reason to go to Puerto Maya unless that is where you tender into (like I did on the Grand Princess.) If nobody is tendering in, I would think many of the shops wouldn't bother opening.

During the slow season (now), most ships probably do dock. High Season begins in November when there will be a better chance of tendering.

I'm scheduled to visit Cozumel in September, November and December this year.

I think December might be the only time I might have to tender in.

Cozumel should be quite busy this upcoming season! HAL has announced Cozumel will be the replacement for all of their ships with port stops scheduled to Costa Maya! There'll be LOTS of tendering going on ....

Actually no tendering into Puerto Maya any more with the reconstruction of the pier, so everything there is closed for now. But Fat Tuesday's in town is open.

Sadly it didn't look like a whole lot of progress. Will be at least another year before they finish. I guess lots of politics as usual cause most of the delay.
