Question Have you been to Cozumel lately?

Hurricane Wilma was forever over Cozumel last year.
Does anybody know the condition of the piers?
    Are they tendering now?

Just talked to my TA. She was there recently. Said the whole waterfront was a mess! Lots of rubble, a lot destroyed. Had to tender as the dock was mostly gone. Too bad and sad.

I was there last week. The piers are totally gone and I cant tell that they have even started trying to rebuild them. All the cruise ships there were using tenders...

That's so sad to hear. We have been in there several times on a cruise, and we have stayed at resorts twice. So beautiful, let's hope they can recover. They have nothing else but tourism there.

Yeah, pretty sad! We were supposed to be there for the New Year's cruise but HAL replaced it with Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala. Cozumel is a nice destination; sure hope they (the inhabitants plus the infrastructure) get back on their feet soon!

We tendered into Cozumel two weeks ago. There is extensive damage as others have said. Right now, it's really a (re) construction zone. Sorry I can't be more positive. Wish some of the cruise lines would bypass Cozumel for now and go to other ports, Like Costa Maya.

    Cheers~

    Cozumel January 2006

We were on Cozumel in Janaury 2006. Our Son and DIL were there a month later. We panned Cozumel the first times we were there - just another pretty beach with pushy vendors that made you feel like intruders. This last visit we hooked up with an outstanding tour guide who really showed us the heart of Cozumel, destruction and all. We came away feeling great respect for the citizens and thoroughly enjoyed our day on the island. We got out of San Miguel, traveled all over, saw beach clubs open and bustling, lots and lots of construction, quaint El Cedral, Mescalita's, CocoNuts, the "Naked Beach", on and on. If you make the right plans, Cozumel can be a wonderful port day!

    Bon voyage.

Just repeating what has been said. We were there in February. Piers are gone, reconstruction everywhere and talked with people who snorkeled. They said it was bad. Give them a year and this should be better though I doubt the piers will be up by then.

As a builder, I noticed they where using the coral based beach sand in their motar and concrete. Not very strong. This could all happen again

Thumbs up Cozumel is still fun & Beautiful!

Got back about 2 months ago and the downtown area was fine. All the shops & bars are open. We decided to venture to the other side of the island and it was fantastic.

Rent a car for about $60.00 a day. (Don't do scooters-they go to slow and take too long to explore). We rented a VW convertible. Cut across middle island road to the backside of the island. It is an adventure you will never forget. Absolutely beautiful & serene! Vendors and bars along the roadside. Very peaceful and quiet along the way...paradise.
