Just an amazing story!

Does this make you have second thoughts about Costa Rica?

No...no second thoughts for us...(we leave a week from Thursday)....I'm just happy we have a SHIP-arranged excursion in Limon. Not that something can't happen....but I think those excursions are tried and true and less likely to have this type of thing happen.

It gives me the jitters. Your absolutely right though I think I would take a cruise excursion rather than taking my own private guide, unless I had maybe 6 ex-marines to protect me. lol Boy does this older gentleman have bragging rights when he get together with his boys from his past, and I'm glad they kept their identity quiet. For safety issues, it was a good idea.

They had arranged this on their own - not a ship's edcursion. I maybe think I would go with a ship's excursuion if I were on a ship that called there.

I do not think this port is much different than most of the other Caribbean ports.
I would not hesitate to cruise there again.
When I visited this port I had a private tour from a well know excursion person. I would use this person again.

I read that these people aranged their tour with someone hanging around the pier.

So right about booking with a well known independent or thru the ship!

Still, some Caribbean ports are safer than others ... especially when going off the beaten path.

Also, things change! There was a time in Limon when we would have taken a taxi ride (thru Mambo Tours) to Playa Bonita and paid for the taxi to wait while we were at the beach ... but won't do this now after warnings from the ship's bar servers who no longer go there for safety reasons.

Just my opinion .....

This is one of the ports that we have only done the ship's tours. We just felt better about it since we have heard varying stories about the safety factor. If we were young and brawney we might think differently.........

Who did you book your excursion through? It is OK to mention the name here.
