LuLu, I'm confused, :icon_smil Is Majahaul the place with all the shopping, a beach, and a huge pool? Can you walk there from the port? When we were there in 2004, Jan and Jackie went to see the ruins, I wasn't interested so stayed on the ship and layed by the pool. When they came back we walked to the shopping area. I was disappointed I didn't go there when they did the tour. Would have loved to be at that beach and pool, oh well.
I doubt I will go back as the Western Caribbean was my least favorite. Not a bad cruise, just not wild about Mexico. Found a pretty emerald ring there, in fact am wearing it right now,

Believe you're thinking of just staying at the port complex which has LOTS of shops, a big pool with swim-up bar, restaurants, etc.
Majahaul is rather rustic. It was a little fishing village long before any thought of building a cruise complex near by. Dive/snorkel boats trips and a variety of other water sports are offered by independents in Majahaul. The shopping there is a "vendor/flea-market sort of thing".
Majahual is for those who enjoy water sports and shabby beach bars!

I bought a little Onyx carving of a panther in Majahaul on our visit there in Septemver. I had just had our back bath redone in gray and white... perfect to sit on a little white shelf in there.
Probably could have bought something very similar at the port complex, but it just felt different buying it at the beachside vendor.
Costa Maya is the best port of call. We just took a Golf Cart by our own, they gave us maps and excellent directions to amazing places. I highly recommend do this. There are close to 65sud for the all day, gas included 4 people. You can contact them sending an email to xxxxx to reserve one because golf carts are the most popular trasnpostation in Costa Maya. Is very Fun!!!!!
You also can take bus, but this is very crowded and this company sucks because you need to make 2 lines and the owner of the bus company has no respect for tourist. Thatīs why we took the golf cart and we had a BLAST!!!1
We just took one with Grand Princess this December.
