I loved, loved, loved Costa Maya.
Been there three times!
Snorkeled twice, went to the ruins once.
Majahual WAS a fabulously REAL place. Before the hurricane. I am anxious to see it again once all the work of putting it back together is complete. I think it will be beautiful. I HOPE it will still be authentic.
The people there are fabulous, and the water is to die for!
We've always LOVED Costa Maya!
Fear what that hurricane did to our favoite, Majahaul (the little fishing village) ... but ... know the water will still be blue and wonderful!![]()

We liked what we saw of it. We did proceed on into Merida. That was worth the stop in itself. I would love to go there again and do some ruin tours.

Met a couple there on beach from our home town and we have become great friends and did another cruise with them this summer.

I am not sure what I missed but I didn't like it. It was small and dirty, and we got accosted every 10 feet by people wanting to give us massages, offer us drinks and chairs on the beach, and sell us stuff. I couldn't wait to get back to the ship!
Upcoming cruise: Caribbean Princess to southern Caribbean on March 7, 2010.
Hmmmm. . .k LOVED Costa Maya, and MOST ESPECIALLY the 'little fishing village' of Majahual.
Personally, I wasn't too crazy about the cruise-line developed shopping center at the pier. Too plastic, to much likke a million anad one strip centers in the US, with, of course, the addition of a pool and some costumed dancers. I've seen pools before... don't need o go to the Yucatan to encounter one. For thesse reasons, and more, I have hurried through the immedlate port area on the three occasions I've bisited costa Maya.
Two of the times, I spent the day in Majahual. The third, went on an excuursion to the nearby ruins, which were fascinating.
Unfortunately, we haven't been back since the devistation of Majahual . . . I fear it's gone plastic, but hope it's retained at least some of its charm and uniqueness.
You are right, Lulu - the water will still be there, and it's utterly fabulous!
