We were just there in February. And if I can offer one piece of advice it's GO TO THE RUINS and get out of the port area.

I had the kids with us so I didn't want to drag them off to a long day at the ruins. But basically, we stepped off the ship. Grabbed a lounge chair next to the pool. And it was OK.

I'll post pics later, I am heading out for the day.

We were there in February also, same time as Michele. It's a beautiful port, you can tell they've done much building and updating since the hurricane. Going along with that, it is very pricey there. Reminds me of Grand Cayman in that respect. Everything was more costly there and other ports and each both had the exact same items but all different prices. Just shop wisely. DH about killed me when he sent me off to get him a Pepsi and it cost $2.00. He said he wanted one but not at that price.

Maybe you should have asked for Coke?

We will be in Costa Maya for our Christimas cruise. Is there a great beach near the port? As this is our first time in Costa Maya, we will probably book an excursion through the ship but I am trying to find out what is available from a beach perspective. We are looking for something beautiful where we can relax and splash around. We are not looking to snorkel.

    Thanks

There is a good beach with clear, shallow water at Majahual. Easy access to refreshments, too, unless the 'restsoration' after the hurricane changed that.

I can say that I am one of many who have walked the dock in to Costa Maya. DW road the shuttle. We enjoyed the shopping. Didn't go to any ruins or beaches. We'll hopefully do those next time.

Has anyone been to Costa Maya lately? We will be there in November of 2010 and would love to hear what others have done for snorkel tours. Can you snorkel from the beach? Which beach? s it better to buy a boat tour or is it just as good from the beaches nearby? Which snorkel tour gives you the most time snorkeling? Where do they take you? How long is the total tour? Can you book on-line? Please share your opinion/experience with us!

We visited the ruins at Costa Maya and found them fascinating and lots of fun. While there are ruins at all the ports we went to, these were the ruins of an entire Mayan city with pyramids and foundations of homes.
