Thank you all so much for all the posts on this website with all the links about how to donate to the people of Mahahual. It is MUCH appreciated, and we know we've received many donations from the people of this site.
We just wanted to let all of you know that we are continuing to update our blog with the latest information about the trips we've all been taking to Mahahual and how we're spending the donations. You can keep checking at Hurricane Dean « Luna Blue’s PlayaZone for the most to date info about the effort that is being coordinated in Playa del Carmen. We will also add more photos to the photo page we put up as soon as we have some time: Mahahual, Mexico After Hurricane Dean. And we're also trying to keep up the thread in the playa.info website, since so many people visit that site (Hurricane Assistance Needed in Majahual ASAP from Playa Folks - www.Playa.info). Oh, and trying to run a hotel in our spare time.
Again, we want to assure everyone that we are spending 100% of the donations to buy the items that we are told are most needed (which changes almost daily, because other private groups are also bringing in items). We have made 4 trips so far. Another is scheduled for Saturday--the shopping for which will be happening tomorrow. So far we have raised a little over $16,000 US, of which we have spent a little over $9,000. There are NO professional organized relief organizations in Mahahual right now -- all donations are being delivered by people who just want to help.
We could go on and on, but we just did a blog update and are tired & ready for bed. Thanks again to everyone, and please help to keep spreading the word. We can't describe how much gratitude we see every time we go down. These donations are REALLY making a difference to the people of Mahahual and the surrounding areas.
You guys rock!
