That's terrible!

Especially, I hate it for the that little fishing village nearby -- Majahaul -- that has been around for ages ... way before there were any thoughts of cruise ships. Already, it was "dirt poor" ... only with the building of the cruise pier/complex did most get electricity.... So Sad!

I guess the good news here is that the community will come back, possibly a little faster, because of the cruise business. It is really inconceivable that a cement based pier could be destroyed like the picture shows. I notice all the flora is brown too, all the leaves gone by the force of the elements.

The actual port area building (pink ones in the background) seem to be intact. The concrete block type building in Mahujual weathered the storm fairly well also. It is the peoples homes (wood shacks??) that are absolutely obliterated.

Here is what the main pier area looks like. Buildings ok, but all of the foliage is denuded.

These are the first photos I've seen of the damage to the pier! That must have been some wave action to tear that apart.

On another board (not cc), I read that even the concrete buildings may have to be demolished because of damaged foundations. Sand washing out from around them... and there would have been fairly deep water inside them, too...

With the help of the cruise lines they should be able to rebuild fairly quicky.
If they can get the shore buildings fixed or replaced they can tender while they fix the pier.
