From yesterday, so 2 days ago was the first day when there wasn't a single donation. But the are still accepting donations and will continue to make runs to Majahual.
" Update on $ collected
Just wanted to give everyone an update on donations collected. So far since Hurricane Dean struck the Mahahual area, we've collected a whopping $28,552.13! Yesterday was the first day since we started that a donation didn't come into the account. We have another trip planned for Wednesday where we'll be taking down many of the current needs: food, mosquito nets, mosquito repellent and some focused help for some individual families.
Again, the ONLY aide coming into this area is from private donations. There is still no organized relief efforts in the Mahahual area.
Thanks again to all the wonderful people who donated time, money and other items to help these people. Believe us, your donations have made a HUGE difference to the people of Mahahual and the outlying communities. Regardless of what happens to this region in the future, these donations made this tough time a lot better for many, many people.
Thanks, Zy!

HURRICANE DEAN UPDATE
As you may know, Costa Maya was davastated by hurricane Dean, this past Tuesday, August 21st. Our village Chacchoben, was also seriously affected and most families lost everything they had. The good news is that nobody was hurt and that we are all willing to work very hard to rebuild our community
.
As for now, we do not have any official information regarding when cruise ships will return to Costa Maya. However, we know that everyone will work hard and that cruise ships will come back as soon as we are ready to provide services to our visitors.
For the moment, we are working hard in our village, and have no plans to go out of bussines. In fact we are planning to offer other options for our clients arriving to Calica and Playa del Carmen.
We are open for reservations for next year and you can be sure that at The Native Choice we will be ready to offer our services when the first cruise returns to Costa Maya.
We also appreciate all the emails we have received from friends and past clients. Please know that we will be responding everyone as soon as services are available in our community. For the moment we can not communicate with the outside.
I am appalled that the International Red Cross has not done anything for these people. Those two-faces hypocrites in Geneva are too busy arguing about whether the Israelis can use a red 6 pointed star instead of a cross or crescent, to do anything that resembles aid to the people of Costa Maya. I can understand that the Mexican Red Cross does not have enough money to go everywhere they are needed. But the IRC has one or two Swiss bank accounts I bet they could dig into.

Zydecoocruiser has an amazing page about Majahual on his webiste... including links, an abundance of (sad) pictures, and a touching email from a Majajual resident and business owner.
It's certainly worth a few minutes of everyone's time. If you haven't seen it, here's the link:
