Costa Maya At about 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the eye of the storm made landfall near Majahual, one of the towns in the Costa Maya region, with maximum sustained winds of 165 m.p.h. and gusts of up to 200 m.p.h. The cruise pier is located only a few miles from Majahual, and the latest reports are that at least half of the dock -- custom built for cruising in 2001 -- has been destroyed. It's being reported that rebuilding will take at least six months. Waist-deep sea water is said to be covering most of the town, which also suffered significant damage to its buildings. No problems, however, has been reported of Mayan archaeological sites in the state of Quintana Roo -- one of the areas' big draws. Posters on the Cruise Critic boards are submitting their favorite pictures from Costa Maya and hoping that photos aren't all they have left.

Excerpt from an AP article, date line less than an hour ago (emphasis mine):
Dean had swept across the Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday after making landfall as a ferocious Category 5 hurricane, toppling trees, power lines and houses - but sparing glitzy resorts on the Mayan Riviera.
Officials said they had received no reports of deaths in the Yucatan Peninsula, though driving rain, poor communications and impassable roads made it difficult to determine how isolated Mayan communities fared in the sparsely populated jungle. Earlier, Dean killed 13 people in the Caribbean.
Riviera Maya Provides Post Hurricane Update
Published on: August 22, 2007
Felix Gonzalez Canto, governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, declared a Yellow Alert for the entire northern part of the state, including Cancun, Cozumel, Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya and Puerto Morelos, after Hurricane Dean hit the Yucatan Peninsula. He has also requested that all commercial services and tourism sectors resume all services and reestablish normal business operations. The Cancun International Airport maintained normal operations through Monday night without interruptions. Beginning Tuesday, the airport began receiving tourists with the arrivals of the first flights from Mexicana Air, Continental and USA 3000 at 9 a.m. local time carrying 600 passengers, most of them tourists from the U.S. and Mexico City.
All highways are open to the regular vehicular traffic, providing uninterrupted access to the Riviera Maya and main city Playa del Carmen. Bus stations are back to normal operations with service between Merida and Playa del Carmen as of this morning. Xcaret has not incurred damage from the storm and will open to the public with all the services on Wednesday morning, Aug. 22, 2007. Xel-Ha will open and resume normal operation of its services, activities and attractions on Thursday Aug. 23, 2007.

Found THIS searching for info about Costa Maya. The entry on Mahahual (Majahual) stopped my breath. Let's hope this is hearsay and not a first hand account. Though all of it is possible. I think I recall seeing a couple of photos where at least the shells of some concrete buildings were still standing:
he latest information available is;
Xcalak
Concrete buidlings have survived. Most wooden buildings have survived.
Wooden and palapa roof are damaged.
Lots of trees have fallen, the beach road is damaged.
Mahahual
All buildings, wood or concrete, are completely destroyed. This includes the cruise ship terminal.
All electricity lines have been destroyed.
It is unclear how far out of Mahahual this destruction has taken place.
All trees are down, the beach road has disappeard.
Oh my gosh! That means the school is gone! I wonder where they went to be safe?
They were showing some footage perported to be Majahual this morning on Fox News and it didn't look like everything was destroyed. Time will sort out the details.
