Talking Costa Maya Tell Me About It

Hearing we might miss Cozumel and end up going to Costa Maya!
Tell me about it. What should I see, what should I do?
What should I not miss?
Can you Scuba Dive there?

On our last cruise we went to Costa Maya and had a great time seeing the ruins on David and Ivan's tour http://www.chacchobenruins.com/ . They are locals who are passionate about their land and people. It was such a great tour!

After the tour, we spent the afternoon at the beach at Majahual. I am so glad we got there before the developers have done too much!

Here are pictures from that day: http://community.webshots.com/album/527685047YCNWgf

We were there in 2004. My friends did a ship tour of the ruins in the morning ( just can't get into ruins) while I layed by the ships pool. On their return we all went into the shopping area. I found they had a big pool there and a sandy beach. Had I known that ahead of time I would have spent my morning there. The whole area there looks new and like a huge tourist trap! That beach and pool looked very inviting though.

Chuck -

Don't know about scuba precisely, but I can tell you we found some excellent snorkeling there last April. So, I would imagine you'll find some good scuba areas, too.

We hired a private guide, and there were just five of us on his little boat with two locals... one went in the water with us, and was great about pointing out things that we might otherwise have missed, like baby squid!

There IS a some reef there to be seen, and while some of it has been damaged, some has not. We truly enjoyed our day in the water there.
