Thread: Costa Luminosa - Jan 30 2010 - Persian Gulf

I booked this cruise today. A deal to good to pass up dumped into my mail box

Anyone else going to Dubai (Emirates), Muscat (Oman), Al Fajyrah (Emirates), Abu Dhabi (Emirates) and Bahrain (Bahrain) ?????


This is a first Costa cruise for us so not sure what to expect.

HI Char Its an 7 nighter with overnight onboard the ship in Dubai both before and after the other ports which I like. Dont have to fly in a day before the cruise in case somthing should happen with the flight etc.

It should be interesting. I have been to Dubain and Bahrain before but not to the other ports.
I have never cruised with Costa so will be fun to see what they ar all about. I dont really like the look of their ships but the Luminosa (maiden voyage in June this year) looked alright.
Costa has gotten lots of negative reviews but I figured they cant be all that bad. Not for Euros 300 pp!!!

What a deal! Does Costa have a good smoking policy for you? I'm sure that would make it even more attractive for you.

Char, I am not sure about Costas smoking policy. I have found 3 different once But it does not worry us to much. I am not choosing the ship for its smoking policy Its the ship and itinerary for us. As long as its not totally non smoking I can live with it. Imagine how much we miss by not booking ships with "unfavorable" smoking policies

Her is a drawing of the Costa Luminosa. I wonder if the ship has the same superstructure as the Costa Atlantica(??)

If you look closely the only design change from Costa Atlantica to Costa Luminosa and her sister Deliziosa are...


A steeper stern for more balconies and larger aft pool area.

And...

A double decked swimming pool area with the skydrome roof.

It's probably built on the same hull as the Carnival Spirit class which is a favirite of mine. I really like the layout of the Pride, Spirit and I will shortly sail on Miracle. I looked at the deck plans and they are very similar to this ship.

Harry, thank you for the pictures. They look very similar to me.
Also the Luminosa looks very similar to the MSC Splendida.

Reggie, I saw a model of the Luminosa this afternoon at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Miami, and the most noticeable structural design differences from the Carnival Spirit, Pride, Legend and Miracle, Costa Atlantica and Mediterranea is the aft and front of the ship.
