GENOA, Italy (June 30, 2011) — Costa Favolosa, the new flagship of the Costa Cruises fleet, was delivered today at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. The total cost of the new build is approximately 510 million euros. The 114,500-ton Costa Favolosa is the largest ship to fly the Italian flag, and its naming ceremony will take place July 2, 2011, in the Piazza Unità d’Italia in Trieste, Italy.
“For us, the delivery of the Costa Favolosa is a twofold source of pride,” said Pier Luigi Foschi, Chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere S.p.A. “She’s a wonderful ship, a real ‘contemporary enchanted castle’ with incredible technological features where our guests will experience a ‘fairy-tale holiday.’ But it also confirms the soundness of our company.”
Costa Favolosa is the next to last of nine new ships that Costa Cruises ordered from Fincantieri. The next ship to enter service will be Costa Fascinosa, also under construction at Marghera, to be delivered in spring 2012.
