Ziggy, we were just there 2 weeks ago (3rd time). My DH rented the snorkel equipment and was disappointed. He saw some Barracuda and a few small fish but, nothing spectacular. He did this on his own, which may have been the problem. They do have areas with a sunken ship and plane that you can go to but it was a way from where we were so he stayed nearby.

Question

Is this CocoCay? I flew over it, and saw an RCL ship, but have been wondering since:

Note to readers: Underlined words are clickable links to photos in the CLF Cruise Gallery.

CocoCay is actually RCL' s name for Little Stirrup Cay, one of the Berry Islands.

The snorkeling is better some days than other there, and most certainly better everyday in the designated snorkeling areas, where there are more fish attracted by the 'wreck'. There's also coral and sea fans, and a greater variety of fish out in the deep water snorkel area, which is not always open, due to strong currents, etc.

I've never seen a lot more than gar, small sting rays and baracuda in the area away from the designated snorkel area. So, if you want to see anything, stick to the designated area, even though its more crowded at and near the shore there. Earlier is better.

I wouldn't say the snorkeling there is as good as that in Belize or Roatan, but a BAD day snorkeling is better than a GOOD day at work!

This pic of an Eagle Ray was taken while snorkeling at CocoCay.

Coco on left, NCL Private Island Great Stirrup Cay on right. If you look closely you can see 2 cruise ships anchored.

That is incredibly cool, flacruiser... thanks for that!
If I'm not mistaken, the other insland you se there is HAL's.

Hal calls theirs Half Moon Cay. I believe it is actually Big Stirrup.
