    jean!

Oops, you have caught me and now you know why your the one with a record loss this week! In my defense (Thank you Marj) I actually remembered that I was supposed to behave and opted out of both pizza and cocktails in favor of a salad and diet! We did get the Fish and Chips in Chicago but we never did manage to get you the Chicago Style hotdog. Will have to rectify that next time! Now, you need to come out here on a regular basis and keep me from succumbing to temptation!

John and Anita, Thanks for the goodies but definitely no ice needed here. High of 56 and rain for today so may need hot chocolate before it is over!

John, Wow on two counts! Great weight loss and I will have to check into Niacin! Your brother does great work. That is absolutely gorgeous!

Marj, thanks for reminding me about WW! Unfortunately, I managed forget for the last two weeks and I can tell it! Hope the sun is shining and you have a great and relaxing day planned!

Some of us know that you can't beat Chicago on hot dogs and I have had both, Chicago wins hands down. There is a very old hotdog place in River Grove, IL named Gene and Judes after the owners. The place has a line out the door from the time it opens until the time it closes. There are a few rules though. The only thing you can get there: hotdogs, tamales, french fries and soda. You are apt to be thrown out on your ear if you ask for ketchup and if your lucky they will loudly point you to McDonalds next door instead of jumping over the counter and leading you to the door! Hotdogs went up in price recently to $1.50 and come with all the fresh made greasy fries that you can handle and then some.

As to pizza, guess I'll just have to get to New York and try the competition since my conviction that Chicago is best is based on very informed opinions of others. Looks like another trip to plan! Maybe Crown Princess with an extra day to give it a fair test! Don't think anyone in the world can beat a double decker from Antioch Pizza but I am more than willing to test all competition!

Garry, What a great graduation present! You mean no more manic weekends where you wake up on Monday morning and wonder where the heck the "time off" went? Sounds like the way to go to me! Hope the shopping trip is productive. I have a rule, grocery shopping and cooking don't go together - one or the other a day!

Gail. Hmmm, Spinach and Feta Cheese? Yum with a second benefit since Joe would definitely leave it alone! Sounds like Joan is coming along and fingers crossed that the bp dropped once she settled down. As to wine country, I am working on it! He has always wanted to do it so shouldn't be too hard a sell but this dratted 3 weeks a year of vacation is a real sticker now that I don't have any banked! My first problem is that my Midwest Miles aren't going to work for those dates but there are other FF choices that might work. Just wanted to dump some Midwest miles since I'm sitting on a huge number of them and they have such limited range! Now, you have to help me keep Jean here with us since it will save my poor wrist! She has been so worried about you that I have been giving her daily updates! BTW, How are you feeling, are the new drugs working?

Karyn, that crush is making it more tempting!

Chuck, so how did the bread turn out?

Neal, my daughter makes it using the Pillsbury croissanty rolls spread out as the crust and light cream cheese, Yum! As to brats, Minnesota gets them from Wisconsin which is definitely king! Of course, dh hates brats (and he is German) but that doesn't stop me every chance I get (and have temporarily forgotten WW).

Bill, I'm not going to ask how the pizza was since I know it was great. Depending on how buried in work we get today (installing a new window) that just may happen tonight! Great thing about spagehtti sauce is that it is better the next day!

Ruth, looks like you are now truly stuck. Wait till you taste Chicago Style! How is Mike feeling?

Marj, I would love to get my hands on the Hebrew Nation hotdogs. Have found them once or twice but they are really hard to find out here. Think I will have to look the next time we are in the city. They had great taste and a whole lot less guilt feelings afterwards!

Canary, you are always welcome to jump right in! Never know what you'll find us talking about next!

Char, what a sweet girl! Guess she knows Mom! Hope the nap worked!

Terry, How many can we bring wiht us to the desert island?

Nicki, Sounds like I'll have to put Erie on the list to just to settle this debate! On the other hand, ever think of a bit of a side trip during those long drives and Elizabeth and I can get you hooked on Chicago style?

Joan, hoping you get out here some time later today so you know that we miss you and are sending plenty of prayers your way for a fast recovery!

Tina, All our prayers! Mom's worry but it could easily be something that isn't a major problem. However, we wish both of you the best and fast answers!

Ok, I had better get some work down around here since Joe has decided that WE will do the laundry room window today. I now have 8 windows sitting in the garage and they guys that are supposed to install him won't be available for a few weeks. Mom should be out of the hospital today so need to check on her next then get moving!

Hi to all the rest of the Owls and hope you have a great Saturday planned!
    Donna

Sorry, Donna, but I think YOU would become the convert! I almost died of shock: Smith's has a website. You have to know it's just an itty-bitty, family owned company. I'm amazed they have ventured this far into the 21st Century: http://www.smithhotdogs.com/index.html

    Oh, are they ever goooooooooood!

    Cheers~

Nicki, it is like this, we are loyal to Da Bears so it is understandable that we are the most mule headed on this planet! This will definitely require a taste off but will have to be on Erie soil since Joe would have me taken away in a white jacket if I had Erie hotdogs flown in for testing purposes since it is a known fact that nothing is better than our own! He very rarely even tries anything else and the best they have ever gotten is that they might be edible!

On the other hand, I am about to call the guys with the white jackets right now since I currently have a chain saw sitting on the fireplace hearth in the living room! At least, he got it through his head that he would die the next time he put tools on the teak dining room table but what in the H@ll is the chain saw doing out in the first place?

Think I will just go and work around it!

WOW! Lots of good food talk. Been catching up on the hot dog discussion. We just had Nathan's at our BBQ during the Memorial Day weekend. I like them and Ballpark Franks (all beef) the best, but I'm surprised that no one has ventured the opinion (that I would share) that the hot dogs you get at the ballpark with a beer always seem to be the best! For me it's mustard, relish and onions to top it off. (Not to mention the occaisional chili dog).

Been away for a while. My 90 year old Mom in Fla. had a blood pressure spike that made her light headed and she fell. Banged her head and had to go to the hospital. So I've been down there without internet for a while. I'd roam the halls of her retirement home trying to pick up stray wireless signals that weren't secure to try to piggy back onto. It's hard to do email in the hall outside someone's apartment....and it just looks bad, too. She's okay now and I'm back, but we're off again in the morning to Arizona for the week. Got a bunch of customers out there for some seminars and some fun. Going to see the Diamondbacks take on Barry Bonds and the Giants Tuesday nite.

Sounds like a good time for hot dogs and beer.

    See you Owls later.

    Good Morning Everyone~

It sure looks as if all of you are having the usual busy Sat. It's the same here...catch up on errands.

Beautiful day here. In the 70's. Perfect weather...but it'll heat up as the summer progresses.

Tina, lots of good thoughts and prayers from me also...

    I'll pop in later on.

    Have a Wonderful Saturday all!

    Good morning everyone,

Looks like I can finally upload photos into the gallery here so I will be trying to get most of them up today. For some reason the site wouldn't let me do that earlier.

I have to go along with the Chicago food fans on pizza and hot dogs. There used to be a Vienna Hot Dog stand on the way to my apartment that served the best hot dogs. And then there were the rolling carts that served polish dogs loaded with kraut or peppers and onions.

Uno's and Due's used to make a pretty good pizza as I recall.

We'll be back there in July to refresh the taste bud memories. Last time we took Ed's daughter to a hot dog stand on North Clark Street. She was amazed that a hot dog could taste that good!

Got to go upload photos. See you later!

Just talked to JoAn. She may get out today. Her bp is 123/63! If not today, I am sure they will let her go tomorrow. She did say she has her son coming to pick her up today but so far the dr's have not said yes. That's JoAn!

I didn't have any Hebrew National hot dogs but I do have HN Beef Salami, one of those 3# ones they sell at Sam's. I made a half a sandwich on 3 grain bread with mustard. Yum!

Feeling kind of tired and run down right now but that's because I went to breakfast with Marcia. And then made a 10 minute stop at Petsmart for Cody toys. Getting out made me feel good but then I collapsed when I got home. It'll just take time. I think the antibiotics are working but I still have this one blocked ear that is not getting any better. Whine, whine!

The refrigerator I had fixed is still only 55 degrees so I guess he'll have to come back. Good thing I have another fridge in the garage. I see that french door model in my very near future now!! Sad though that this was a top of the line, Wide By Side Maytag and it is only 5 years old! I thought fridge's lasted like 15 years?

Been spending way too much time watching HGTV. Thinking of putting in new countertops. Who knows about granite, silostone and slate?
And what should I use for a backsplash? All you frustrated designers chime in here! I have terra cotta tile on the floor, 16 x 16 and in each corner there is a cream colored , 1/4 of a medallion. So where four tiles come together, there is a small design. I was thinking a lighter color countertop with some browns and terra cotta colors. Advice????

Then I may replace the drop in stove with a smooth top with 5 burners.

Like I said, way too much time and tv on my hands lately!!
