On the dark side, someone posted some "helpful hint" about Princess, but said that very few people know about the different color carpets (blue on one side, red on the other). I said that I've known about this for years but added that it is helpful to tell newbies about this. the next day, I saw this thread but didn't see the arrow indicating that I had posted on it. So I said basically the same thing. I don't think I was being snarky. I just wanted to point out to the OP that yes, that's fine to say here's a helpful hint, just don't assume that you're the one who discovered this (this was my subtext at least).

Today, I saw my second post was gone as well. Again, I don't think I was being snarky. But it just goes to show that sometimes those mods just don't get it.

Now contrast that with another thread -- one that's been around for about five years or so (the reason why I go there) that started off by one guy to discuss Jewish sites that one can visit in cruise ports. But those of us who started posting there made it into a more general thread about anything Jewish and even beyond that, a chat room of sorts. It was moved to the off topic area. The OP didn't seem to be too happy about that, but we formed a pretty cohesive group with some people staying a bit and then leaving and new people joining but maybe 10 or so being consistently showing up every week at the least. We lost one member to cancer, and her widower (who wasn't a member of the DS) ended up marrying one of the members (about a year and a half after she lost her husband to cancer).

We ranged from the 20s on up to retired. Those with families, grand kids, one gay woman. A British couple recently joined in on the discussions. Mostly we talk about our health (after all, we're jewish), things happening in the world, recipes to try, etc. Many cyber hugs.

So last week, one guy who started posting maybe last year and intermittently, posted a very harsh post about how we took the OP's thread and turned it into a thread with a lot of kvetching and whinning. Then he says he had mentioned that his mother was ill, but no one seemed concerned.

I looked back several pages and finally did a search on his posts to find one a month old. Yes, some people did send him well wishes for his mother. The post after his was one of mine, but I didn't mention his mother. So I pointed out that often (probably most of the time, actually) I will start typing a post on these boards, but then stop to check the progress of my cooking in the kitchen , move laundry from washer to dryer, even check email or other sites (like CLF) before returning to my typing that post. I multi-surf and multi-task. Sometimes I'll check the post before mine to see if someone had added something, but not always. So apparently he had posted in the meantime on that day, and I didn't see his post.

Others found his post (and his follow up one) very nasty and stated so. They apologized for not wishing his mother to get better -- that they missed his post -- but some did say that they could see their post in which they had back then.

So this was definitely a case of something nasty (in fact one of the people he called to task on was a former mod of the ds). While my comments on that other thread got pulled. Jeez.

Venting is okay. Just don't do it over there or you might get the whole thread poofed!

It would serve them right. I noticed that one or two others mentioned they've known about it. So why do they delete my posts?
