    Century Noway/Arctic Circle June 2009

We are booked on the Celebrity Century for 26th June 2009 Norway/Arctic Circle cruise. Any one else been or going on this cruise?

We usually book excursions at all ports, but talking to the lovely people on our table last year, we are not going to this year. Probably only a couple. Any ideas what to do whilst in the ports in Norway?

    Thanks

Congratulations on your Norway cruise and a warm welcome to CLF!!

Unfortunalty I am not going to be on the cruise with you but I am moving back to Norway (from Spain) June 17, so I know a few things you should see and do

    Which ports are you visiting???

You don't have very long to wait till you are on the deck of the Century! We have sailed Century and think it is a perfect sized ship.....not a huge floating city.

Since Lars is from Norway he can certainly help you with what's what at your ports of call.

Aalesund - My home town and where we are moving to town in Norway with most Art Nouveau buildings. I would just walk around and look at the beautiful architecture. If you want to learn more about the town and its history you should pay a visit to the Art Nouveau center where you will experience the history in a multi media shows that portrays the town before and after the fire. You can also walk through the rooms of this listed building that used to be a private residence and a pharmacy.
Also you can walk up to the restaurant and view point "Fjellstua" - You will get some great views but the walk will probably take around 30 minutes and its only steps (around 500 I think)
You could also take one of the ships tours to the "path of the Trolls" -

Geiranger - If the ship offers an overland tour from Hellesylt to Geiranger you should book it. Its a lovely tour. If its unavailable stroll around Geiranger town have a look at the Fjord Muesum the old church or take a ships tour to Mount Dalsnibba. Whatever you decide to do make sure you are outside on deck when you sail in/out of the Geiranger fjord. Our family have an old farm house in Geiranger so I might be there waving at you

Molde - The city of roses, walk around town. Its not much there really but you could do the folk museum. Your best bet is to opt for a ships tour either the Viking adventure tour or the Atlantic Ocean Road.

Olden - Its a very small village so your best tour would be to the Briksdalen Glacier or Kjenndalen Glacier or a visit to the Glacier senter.

Bergen - walk around town, have a look at the Hansa bryggen and the fish market. Pick up some freshly cooked prawns - yummi.
You can take a fiocular to Mountain Floyen for views over Bergen and the sorunding areas or visit Trollhaugen, the former home of the composer Edward Grieg.

Tromso - Look out for polar bears in the streets J/k. You sould not miss the Polar museum, Wilderness senter or the Artic Cathedral. You should also try the local beer, Mack. Its very tasty

Honningsvag: An easy one, The North Cape tour!!!! Unless of course you would fancy some bird safari or king crab safari

I hope this was of some help for you. You will have a great time for sure. Its all about Nature in NOrway isnt it
You never know, I might bump into you in Norway
