Celebrity Mercury to Leave Fleet in Feb 2010

Celebrity Cruises today announced one of its oldest ship, the Celebrity Mercury, will be leaving the fleet in February.

The 1,898-passenger vessel, a mainstay of the line since 1997, is being transferred to TUI Cruises, a German-focused cruise brand launched in 2008 in a joint venture between Europe-based Tui and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is the parent company of Celebrity Cruises as well its namesake Royal Caribbean brand.

Celebrity says the Celebrity Mercury will be renamed Mein Schiff 2 and join Tui's one existing vessel, Mein Schiff, in sailing in Europe. Mein Schiff also is a former Celebrity ship, the Celebrity Galaxy.

There is another thread from June discussing the Mercury's departure. You might want to look at that. http://www.cruiselinefans.com/celebr...chiff-2-a.html (Mercury to become Mein Schiff 2)

Celebrity Mercury will complete its scheduled sailings through the February 14, 2011, itinerary. Guests with individual bookings and named group bookings on Celebrity Mercury on or after February 26, 2011 have the option to either cancel their booking or move to any Celebrity Mercury sailing from Baltimore from October 18, 2010, through February 14, 2011, with the exception of the December 20, 2010 itinerary.

and she will enter service as Mein Schiff with TUI in May 2011.

I'm sailing Feb 5 on the next to last cruise before Mercury leaves the fleet.
I just had to say my goodbyes to this special ship that has provided me so much
    enjoyment over the years.

I saw Mein Schiff in the Caribbean Nov. 2009 while on Ruby Princess One interesting thing I noticed was hammocks on the Sky Suites on the Sky Deck.

I'm thinking the Century will be with Celebrity for quite some time.

I agree with you, Reggie. Century is the smallest ship in the Celebrity fleet and with the re-fit a few years ago, she has an appeal that the mega ships do not have. It's good to know that Mercury will be joining her sister rather than sailing into some unknown future.
