    Celebrity Millennium bridge pictures

I was lucky to be invited on a bridge tour with about a dozen other people while on the Millennium Actually, I gave a strong hint to the front desk that I would really, really love to go on the bridge tour since I had been scheduled to go on one on my last two cruises but both were cancelled.

    This time I lucked out!

Here is the entrance to the bridge. Most of the senior bridge crew have cabins right outside the bridge room in case they are called to duty. Shifts are eight hours. When we were there, there were four people who were actively steering the ship.

First thing was the overview of the bridge by Andrew, the hotel manager (a really neat guy who I met several times on both legs of our cruise) He said that less than 2% of the passengers get to ever see the bridge.

Then we were given a complete TSA type scan to make sure we were not taking anything up there that should not be up there. Purses and camera bags were not allowed.

Lots of pictures on the bridge of the ship, the ship schematics and such interesting things. The last picture was the waste systems flow diagram.

Next set will be the view from the bridge. Unlike the windows anywhere else on the ship, the bridge windows are kept spotless. There are even windshield wipers! The bridge stretches the whole width of the ship with a main center console and two side consoles for controlling the ship in port. There is a hole in the floor on each side where the bridge protrudes out so the bridge crew can actually see down to the ground below them. I did not get that picture till later.

Oh yes, there was a whole wall of framed awards, engravings, and other things.

I look forward to seeing the rest of the pictures Neal. It's alway nice to get to see behind the scenes.

The first sight of the is how wide open it is, how clean the glass is, and how far you can see. We were only allowed on one side of the bridge but were allowed to photograph most of it. The rear console was definitely off limits (we could not see what was on it) and we were not allowed past a certain point. But other than that we had free reign. No, we could not touch the controls (the ship was on autopilot so it did not really matter)

The tour was given by the watch officer, Justin. Mark my words, with his piloting skills and his people skills, he will be a captain in less than 10 years.

I tweaked this picture a bit to lighten up the control console in the middle of the bridge.

That is the pole that we were not allowed to go past. The "secret" console is the one behind the chart.

Tomorrow I will show off the pictures of the console.
