New dress code for the Aqua Class restaurant Blu

Up until a couple of weeks ago the dress code for the Aqua Class restaurant Blu has been the same as the main dining room, which is formal on the formal nights. There has been a change to make it the same as all the other specialty restaurants...smart casual EVERY night.

The Celebrity UK site has had the change published, but the US site has not, which has made this a hot topic. I emailed the Captain's Club for clarification and got this response:

    Dear Ms. XXXX:

Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response.

The information from the UK website is correct. There is no formal attire dress code for Blu.

Ms. XXXX, thank you for choosing Celebrity Cruises.

    Sincerely,

    Constance Wood

It's good for the packing weight of suitcases for air travel! Tux with the shoes and all the accoutrements add to the weight...I will pack less shoes and no formal wear.

We have always dressed formally with Bob in his tux and me in corresponding finery, but I must admit that smart casual does have it's merits. Jeans do not fit into the smart casual designation and I wouldn't expect anyone to try to dress down that much in Blu.

We shall see how it plays out on our March cruise. We will be dressed nicely, Bob with sport coat and me in a "church" dress.

I still think most of the crowd dining in Blu will dress formal if the dress code for the rest of the ship calls for such attire.

Ah, there's the rub, Lars! The only place that formal dress is "requested" anymore is the main dining room.

Celebrity used to have formal for the whole evening, but not anymore. It's Smart Casual and above for the theater and other public rooms.

It's always been Smart Casual for the specialty restaurants, and since Celebrity says that Blu is the specialty restaurant for AquaClass, this relaxing of the dress code brings Blu into line with the other specialty restaurants.

Ok, so its only formal in the dining room and not the rest of the ship.
How strange is that...Really, how very peculiar.

Well, I suppose Celebrity have to enforce Formal down there otherwise those people in the dining room might show up in jeans and flip flops

I'm glad for the change and hope it continues! We will be onboard at least 29 days in 2013 (have an additional 11 days booked, but am uncertain if we'll really be able to get away for that long!) and not having to wear full formal will save tons of packing space! We'll still dress up in smart casual or better, but no tuxes for us!

It is a shame in a way. I have always liked the formal dining. But it is a pain doing formal with the current airline restrictions.

We will still bring formal for our April cruise in Blu. We are home porting, so its an easy yes for us but i do book one formal night in Murano. If we were flying into port, we'd probably still be bringng formal. I haven't learned yet how to pack better and eliminate that 3rd bag...

    ..maybe Windjammer?
