Back when we were having that problem with the Celebrity policy of raising the corkage fee to $25 and then at the same time saying you could not bring ANY wine onboard for consumption.......
I actually printed out the letter I got from Celebrity and brought it with me and my wine. I never needed it.
Maybe I should print out the "Jeans are never permitted" thing from that other board and bring it with me to show the Maitre De when they pemitt people to dine in jeans.Well actually that is just more trouble than its worth.
I can look the other way as long as jeans are few and far between like they have always been.
By the way I am the worst typist and speller, and often make mistakes using homonyms instead of the correct words. But did you notice how hastily that response that Joey and I got from Celebrity must have been prepared because it says "aloud" instead of "allowed"?

If jeans are few and far between (as we all know they are) and if you are really OK with looking the other way...then this whole topic is resolved!

But Jeans are only few and far between when they are expressly forbidden.![]()

I don't believe that. Jeans are few and far between no matter what they say. Do you really believe there are huge throngs of people just chomping at the bit...watching and hoping Celebrity won't use the word 'forbid'... because they are simply dying to wear jeans to a nice dinner on a cruise ship?
No way. Most people who cruise are fairly sophisticated and know how to dress for dinner. I admit that some people might think that dressing up could include jeans...but MOST people won't. Most people will dress nicely for dinner on a cruise ship because they enjoy that dressy atmosphere. It's part of the fun of cruising.
Unless, of course, you're talking about some three day party boat going to Cancun during spring break. Then all bets are off! You're likely to see a lot of jeans, and who knows what else.
If Celebrity does relax the rules and keeps on using the word "suggest" instead of "forbid" then sure, you'll probably see a few people in jeans now and then. But I think all this frenzy is way overblown. A few jeans here and there won't be the end of cruising as you know it.
I have been to plenty of very formal events where one or two people had their own 'unique' ideas about what to wear. To put it bluntly, they didn't fit in. But the elegant ballroom, the champagne, chandeliers, fine dining, and all the other people dressed so nicely were what created the atmosphere...and the fact that those oddballs who dressed wrong were among us didn't change how formal the event looked or felt.
