Its outrageous really when the most "upmarket" of the mass market cruise line officially allows jeans as part of the dress code.
I agree with what others have said there, it will ruin the ambience as guests can become more and more casual.
However, I dont mind the ellimination of Informal.
Celebrity do really know how to make their guests upset.
Earlier this year it was the new strict smoking policy and now with allowing jeans.
Way to go Celebrity!!!!
Think it rather strange that I got my Captains Club newsletter yesterday and it had this to say about the new dress codes (bolding is mine):
Quote:
Dressing for dinner
One of the biggest changes to dining with Celebrity has nothing to do with the food. For long-tine cruisers like you, who truly appreciate the ambience of life onboard an ocean-going vessel, we are reviving one of cruising's most romantic traditions beginning on August 1, 2008 - formal dining. With up to three formal evenings on each cruise, you can celebrate in the style and warmth of our exceptional services. Even those nights not designated as "formal" will include a certain elegance, as we phase out informal dress in our main dining rooms and specialty restaurants, replacing it with "Smart Casual and Above", a guideline that will add to the sophistication of each night out. Of course, those who'd rather not dress for dinner, are more than welcome to come and enjoy the expanded menus in the many casual dining options onboard each ship, where you'll find everything from pizza to sushi.

A couple people over on that other board have received conflicting information regarding the "Jeans" being included. A few of them wrote the captains club and got a different answer than what is posted on the Celebrity website. So possibly it could be a mistake by the web administrators? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the wording "jeans" will be removed.

We were on a cruise on 'another' line where a fellow arrived late every evening, wearing jeans, t shirt, flip flops and a baseball cap!
We were on the upper level, with a view directly down to his table. We watched for 'baseball cap guy' to make his entrance every night, and order his giant beer. He was the butt of many jokes, and is, to this day for me, a mental connection to that particular line.
I agree 100%. I don't care for anytime dining and certainly don't care for Jeans in the DR. Maybe "X" bit off more than it could chew. I have already let it be known that I find much to my displeasure with the new policies. Let's hope "X" will backtrack a little.
Since Celebrity has already announced it and it's posted on their website, I doubt if they will retract this (unfortunately). It would be nice if they didn't allow jeans in the specialty restaurants though.
